Ahmedabad, 25 June 2023

Bhadran village of Borsad taluka of Anand district of Gujarat with a population of 12 thousand is known as Swachh Gaon. Bhadran village in Borsad taluka of Anand has the highest number of NRIs. The total area is about 5 square kilometers. The village is situated on the fertile plains of the Mahi River, 10 km north of the mouth of the Mahi River where it meets the Gulf of Khambhat. The cleanliness of the village is best in entire Gujarat. Before independence, sewers were first laid in the villages of Gujarat. Every day cleaning and sanitisation is done by the Safai Karmacharis, fully supporting the cleanliness mission for more than 40 years. Nagin was implemented by Bapu. The Gram Panchayat has received more than three awards for cleanliness.

All routes are metalled roads. Blocks have been placed on the footpaths. There is no heap of garbage anywhere in the village. The whole village is dust free. Not even an iota of dust is visible. 50 percent of the income of the Gram Panchayat is spent on cleanliness. 25 sweepers of the Panchayat clean the village every day. 3000 dustbins have been given door-to-door for cleanliness in the village. Modern technology is used to maintain cleanliness.

There is a rule in the village to collect a fine of Rs 100 from those who litter in public places. No one has been fined so far. The people of the village consider cleanliness as their responsibility. An electric machine has been installed in the Panchayat for the presence of 25 sweepers of the Panchayat.

Mud , even a puddle of good water will not be visible. There is no garbage, dirt or dust on the road. Cleanliness is inherited. Bhadran village of Borsad taluka has 23 wards and population is 12 thousand.

Bhadran has got Rs 2.70 lakh for clean and healthy village and Rs 4 lakh for Swarnim village.

Every day 8 to 10 tractor loaded garbage is disposed of on the allotted land outside the village. The drain was cleaned by hiring a jetting machine from the prize money received from the government for cleaning. There is no dustbin in the village. Garbage is collected from house to house twice a day and disposed of properly. Bhadran has got Rs 2.70 lakh for clean and healthy village and Rs 4 lakh for Swarnim village. Facility without government help

The village has been made dust free by laying paver blocks in the entire village at a cost of two crore rupees. Paver blocks have been installed with the money of the villagers. Government grants are not used. The bus stand was also constructed by the UK based NRI family of the village itself. Naginbhai Manibhai Patel (Bapu) of the village was employed as an officer in ST corporation and they built a bus-stand in his memory.

Every road-drain is paved with cement or asphalt. The main road can be reached from any minor road. Bhadran Bank is more than 100 years old. The Gaikwadis of the village are old houses. There are colleges, schools, hospitals, temples, ashrams, co-operative societies, shopping centers, village panchayats, water tanks, etc.

The Bhadran Railway Station is not as beautiful as it looks. This railway station, which looks beautiful like a film set, looks quite empty, as there is only one train coming here throughout the day. The railway here is narrow gauge, so modern trains cannot come here now. Started in 1922, this train is now on its last journey.

Before the independence of India, there was a system of water supply. The Gaikwad Narrow Gauge Railway runs from here to Vaso. The same large Town Hall, surrounded by a beautiful garden on the banks of a large lake, is now owned by the Gram Panchayat.

Gujarat first got the privilege of having a drainage system. While most other towns never dreamed that such a thing would ever exist. The people around were undergoing treatment at the government hospital. It is now run by Bhadran Mitramandal (Mumbai-run). It has been converted into a small but model hospital.
