Amit Shah’s Political Life

Ahmedabad, December 28, 2025
In the Modi government’s cabinet, Amit Shah was given the Home Ministry. Shah has been successful as an organizational leader. He was the Home Minister in the Gujarat government. He has experience in both the organization and the government.

National BJP President Amit Shah played a crucial role in expanding the BJP’s reach in the 2014 and 2019 elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 303 seats, and the NDA secured 352 seats. This victory has made Amit Shah the most successful president of the BJP.

During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Shah helped the BJP win 71 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
He continuously worked to strengthen both government positions and the organization.

Amit Shah served as a minister in the Gujarat government under Narendra Modi from 2002 to 2010. He fit well into the role of Gujarat’s Home Minister. He was responsible for maintaining peace throughout the state.

Personally, his tenure was marked by several allegations and controversies. When he was the Home Minister of State in Gujarat, he was accused of orchestrating encounters. His tenure was average. As Home Minister, he was intelligent and possessed the ability to make quick decisions.

He worked in a very disciplined manner within the party but remained loyal to Modi’s group. For decades, he has emphasized booth management. Shah remained Modi’s number two.

He preferred loyal officers over qualified ones. He would be the first Home Minister of India to be removed from his own state, which was a very shameful incident for the entire country. Whatever happened in the encounters was done not at the behest of Narendra Modi but at the behest of Amit Shah.

Amit Shah never forgives his political enemies.

BJP and Congress leaders have publicly acknowledged that their phones were being tapped and they were being spied on. The Gujarat Police were accused of illegally killing 31 people between 2002 and 2006.

In these encounter cases, 32 police officers, including 6 IPS officers and former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah, were arrested and sent to jail.

On July 25, 2010, the CBI arrested Amit Shah in connection with the encounter cases. He was jailed in the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi.

For a while, political pundits thought his political career would end there.
On October 29, 2010, the Gujarat High Court granted Amit Shah bail on a surety bond of one lakh rupees.
The CBI had charged Amit Shah with murder, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy. However, due to lack of evidence, he was acquitted of these charges.
After his release from jail, he steadily climbed the ranks within the party.
Amit Shah likes to keep the Home Ministry and the cooperative structure under his control. He would exploit the weaknesses of his opponents to silence them.

Shah was born on October 22, 1964, into a business family in Mumbai.

At the age of 14, he claims to have joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a ‘Tarun Swayamsevak’ in Mansa, Gandhinagar district. There is no evidence to support this claim.

He was introduced to politics at a young age. Perhaps this is why Amit Shah is now considered a master strategist.

When Amit Shah came to Ahmedabad for college, he joined the ABVP, the student wing of the BJP. He never joined the RSS.

In 1982, Amit Shah, who was studying biochemistry, was made the secretary of the Ahmedabad ABVP. Later, he became the secretary of the Ahmedabad city BJP organization.

His political career as a BJP candidate began during the 1995 assembly elections.

He was first elected as an MLA from the Sarkhej assembly constituency. He contested and won several elections in Gujarat, one after another. In 1997, he was made the National Treasurer of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Later, he was given the responsibility of Vice-President in the Gujarat BJP. Whether it was elections in the state cooperative sector, the Gujarat Cricket Association elections, or luxury club elections, he kept winning institutional elections and maintained control over them on behalf of the party. In 2002, he was given the post of Minister of State for Home Affairs in Gujarat. Shah emerged as a trusted confidant of Narendra Modi and took control of the entire BJP. Shah handled all of Modi’s secret operations. Narendra Modi has made it a habit to use his personal popularity to secure victories for his party in elections across the country. Political opponents constantly remind the BJP that criminal cases are also registered against Amit Shah. Amit Shah
