Banaskantha, September 15, 2025
Following heavy rains on September 7th and 8th, thousands of families have been affected by flooding in Tharad, Vav, and Suigam talukas of Banaskantha. Villages were flooded, houses collapsed, crops were destroyed, and massive livestock losses have severely impacted the rural economy.
Today, Gujarat Pradesh Congress President Amitbhai Chavda, accompanied by Banaskantha MP Genniben Thakor, District Congress President Gulabsinh Rajput, and local MLAs and workers, visited the affected villages in Suigam, Vav, and Tharad talukas. They listened to the suffering of the people in Bharadwa, Morikha, Dodgam, and Khanpur villages, inspected damaged houses, and visited farmers’ damaged fields.
After the meeting, Amit Chavda said, “The floods have destroyed all of people’s property, from their homes to their crops. Many animals have died. Health services in the affected areas are disrupted, and medicines are unavailable at primary health centers.”
He further stated that the government’s announcement of cash assistance to only two members of a family is unfair, and the people have collectively decided to boycott it.
Amit Chavda’s Main Demands
The state government should announce a ₹1,000 crore package for flood victims in Banaskantha.
Cash assistance and household assistance should be provided to all members of each family.
Canals should be constructed to permanently drain water from the desert to provide relief from recurring floods.
Medicines and medical facilities should be immediately made available at health centers.
He reminded that after 2015, 2017, 2021, floods have occurred in 2025 as well, causing huge losses. Therefore, the government must find a permanent solution.
Congress officials and workers, including Genniben Thakor, Gulab Singh Rajput, MLA Kantibhai Kharadi, former MLA Chandanji Thakor, Shivbhai Bhuria, and Dinesh Gadhvi, were present during the visit to the flood-affected areas.
