Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches Ahmedabad’s first Metro train on 6.5km section between Vastral Gam and Apparel Park under Phase-1
Ahmedabad city’s first Metro train between Vastral and Apparel Park, a distance of 6.5 km, under Phase-1. He himself travelled on the train from Vastral up to Nirant Crossroad. He was accompanied by Gujarat’s Governor, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel and others.
Mr. Modi also inaugurated the Automated Fare Collection Gate, designed on Swadeshi theme installed at the Vastral Gam Metro Station.
The fare collection system is the National Common Mobility Card System (NCMC), which can be accessed through debit or credit card or RuPay, jointly developed by Bharat
Electronics Limited (BEL), C-DAC, DMRC, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)
and SBI.
The Prime Minister on this occasion also laid the foundation stone of Ahmedabad Metro
Phase-2, extending from Motera to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, a distance of 22.84
km, to be built at a cost of Rs.6,769-crore, with 5.42 km offshoot from GNLU to GIFT City,
comprising elevated corridor having 22 stations.

Hardeep Singh Puri, Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja, Ahmedabad
Mayor Bijalben Patel, Metro Rail Project Managing Director I.P. Gautam, Chief Manager
Amit Gupta, BJP State President Jitubhai Vaghani, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra
and D-G Police Shivanand Jha, among others.
