Bhavnagar, 20 September 2025
The Prime Minister is scheduled to reach Bhavnagar on Saturday. His visit is considered politically important in view of municipal and local body elections. In his speech, the Prime Minister will try to help the public by presenting advertisements and videos of new schemes and development works worth crores of rupees.
Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil has opened the front even before the Prime Minister’s visit. He presented before the media videos of speeches and promises made by the Prime Minister (then Chief Minister) in Bhavnagar in 2006, 2012 and on other occasions. These include announcements of Bhavnagar-Dahej-Hansot twelve-lane road, Kalpsar scheme and Golden Corridor directly connecting Bhavnagar to Surat by 2020.
Gohil said that the Prime Minister’s speeches had claimed that the distance from Bhavnagar to Surat would remain only 136 km, 75,000 vehicles would ply directly through Dahej-Husno and a broad gauge railway line would also be laid. Apart from this, announcements were also made to build an international standard diamond park at Bhavnagar, a new GIDCO and national level ports at Mahuva, Saratanpar and Mithivirdi.
The Congress leader alleges that Bhavnagar has not benefited from any of these announcements so far and these have proved to be mere election promises.
Major demands of Congress
The Prime Minister should apologize to the people of Bhavnagar for the broken promises.
On the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Ahmedabad’s cricket stadium should be re-named after Sardar Patel.
A special package and policy should be announced for the diamond and ship-breaking industries.
MSP law should be passed in Parliament immediately to ensure remunerative price to farmers growing cotton, onion and groundnut.
The Prime Minister should personally visit the areas affected by heavy rains and listen to the farmers’ problems.
Alcock Ashdown Government Company of Bhavnagar should be revived to re-connect local people to livelihood.
The Congress says that Bhavnagar is repeatedly given false dreams during elections, but the people here have not achieved anything in the ground reality. Now it is to be seen what new announcements the Prime Minister makes in his tour and whether he will respond to old promises.
