Repair work will be done on the Ellis Bridge built during the British rule in Ahmedabad. Along with this, Rs 32.40 crore has been allocated for the strengthening and restoration work of the bridge. This is an important decision of the government towards preserving the heritage.
Being historical, the Ellis Bridge is in a dilapidated and dangerous condition, due to which the bridge has been completely closed for use for the last ten years. In such a situation, the state government has decided to preserve the heritage of this heritage bridge and carry out proper repair work in time using modern technology.
It was built in a bow-string type steel structure. Built in 1892 during the British rule, the Ellis Bridge is 433.41 m long, 6.25 m wide and 30.96 m tall, and has 14 spans of bow-string type steel structure.
The bridge will be opened to pedestrians after the repair work is completed.
After the restoration of the bridge, the bridge will be opened to pedestrians. The structural design of the bridge will be made using the method used in the repair work so that people can visit this heritage bridge. Along with this, the bridge will also be opened to pedestrians to visit the traditional Sunday market held near Victoria Garden on the Sabarmati riverbank.
