Born on 22 October 1964, Amit Shah represents the emerging New India in
\nevery sense of the term. Leading the Party from the front for the last \uf001ve years
\nhas been remarkably successful in expanding BJP’s organisational foot print,
\nsecuring one electoral victory after the other in State assembly elections.
\nDuring his tenure, Party has become the world’s largest political party with
\nover 10 crore registered members.
\nAmit Shah has risen to Head the ruling Party of India literally from the grass
\nroots. Initially, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and
\nlater became an active member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad
\n(ABVP), to become its Ahmedabad city unit secretary. Later, he also
\nshouldered the responsibilities of Secretary as well as Vice President of
\nBJP, Ahmedabad. In 1997, he became National Treasurer of the
\nBharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). His dedication, dexterity and
\nabove all result oriented performance made him In-Charge of several election
\ncampaigns of the National Leaders including that of LK Advani in 1991, Atal
\nBihari Vajpayee in 1996, both in Gandhi Nagar Parliamentary constituency.
\nNo wonder, when Narendra Modi decided to context his \uf001rst Assembly
\nElection in 2001 from Rajkot-2 assembly constituency, it was again Amit
\nShah as the Campaign Chief.
\nBeyond campaigns, Amit Shah also became known for his adroit handling of
\norganisational matters. In 2013, he was appointed as National General
\nSecretary of the BJP and In-Charge of Uttar Pradesh. His painstakingly
\ncarried out efforts earned BJP a historic success in the Parliamentary
\nelections of 2014. He took over as BJP National President in July 2014 and
\nfrom there onwards there is literally no looking back. During the last \uf001ve
\nyears, under the twin leadership of PM Narendra Modi and Party President
\nAmit Shah, BJP has successfully formed Govts in Haryana, Gujarat,
\nArunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tripura and
\nHimachal Pradesh. Also, together with alliance partners, BJP was
\nreturned to power in States like Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Assam, Goa,
\nand Manipur. Till recently in Jammu and Kashmir and currently in
\nBihar, Nagaland and Meghalaya, BJP is the junior partner of the ruling
\ncoalition.<\/p>\n
A man of many parts, Amit Shah is an avid Cricket lover, a sports person
\nhimself and a voracious reader whose major interests are history and
\nliterature.
\nDetails of Elected positions held by Shri Amit Shah –
\nA\uf001ve term MLAof Gujarat assembly (1997\u20132017), Amit Shah was elected
\nfrom Sarkhej Assembly Constituency for four consecutive elections and
\nfrom Naranpura Assembly Constituency in 2012. In the assembly election
\nof 2002, Amit Shah was elected with the record lead of 1,58,036 votes in the
\nhistory of Gujarat assembly elections. Again in 2007, he defeated Congress
\nparty by the highest margin of 2,32,823 votes for the fourth consecutive
\ntime.
\nAs a legislator, served as –
\n\u2022 Chairman of Public Undertakings Committee of the Gujarat State
\nAssembly.
\n\u2022 Worked for two terms as – Minister of State for Home, Police
\nHousing, Border Security, Civil Defense, Home Guards, Gram
\nRakshak Dal, Prison, Prohibition, Excise, Transport in the Ministry
\nof Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
\nIn the co-operative sector –
\nServed as Chairman, The Ahmedabad Dist. Co.opp. Bank, (22 Jan 2000 to
\n22 Dec 2002) which is the lead bank of 367 district Co.Opp. Banks of India.
\nThis loss-making bank was turned into pro\uf001t making ensuring that
\nshareholders get some dividend on their investment. Also, played key role in
\npreparing revival package of Rs 400 crore for the then dysfunctional
\nMadhavpura Mercantile Co-Op bank. The amount so received was
\ndistributed to the small depositors.
