To meet the likely situation arising out of cyclone and to review
\nthe preparedness of the state government to face it, Gujarat Chief Minister Mr.
\nVijaybhai Rupani held a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar late this evening.
\nThe meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Nitinbhai Patel
\nand Revenue Minister Mr. Kaushik Patel and Chief Secretary and other senior
\nofficials and they had also apprised to Mr. Rupani about the preparedness of
\ntheir respective departments.
\nTo ensure minimum loss of lives and properties due to cyclone, several
\nimportant directive decisions were taken in the meeting. In the meeting it was
\nalso decided to postpone three-day long, state-wide \u2018Shala Praveshotsav\u2019 to be
\nheld between June 13 and 15.
\nThese likely to be affected districts are \u2013 Porbandar, Gir-Somnath, Botad,
\nBhavnagar, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Junagadh, Amreli, Rajkot, and Kutch.<\/p>\n
The schools \u2013 colleges in these districts will also remain close on June 12 and
\n13.
\nBeside these, tomorrow\u2019s meeting of State Cabinet to be held in Gandhinagar
\nhas also been postponed as the ministers and district in-charge secretaries
\ncould go to their respective districts to guide and assist the district
\nadministration.
\nMeanwhile, senior IAS officer Mr. Sandeep Kumar has been entrusted with a
\nresponsibility to restore the electricity on priority basis in Saurashtra \u2013 Kutch
\nregions, if the PGVCL power supply gets affected due to the cyclone. Similarly,
\nthe Urban Development Department has also been instructed to shift the
\nlabourers, who are working at public or private works in these 11 districts, to
\nsafer places, and to dismantle the giant hoardings to prevent loss of lives and
\nproperties.
\nMeanwhile, Mr. Rupani has also urged the citizens to be united to face this
\nnatural calamity to ensure minimum loss of lives and properties, particularly of
\nthose 300,000 people who are living in make-shift houses in 31 tehsils of these
\n11 districts. The administration of these districts have also asked to ensure
\nshifting of these people to safer places by tomorrow, afternoon.
\nThe cyclone is likely to hit the coastal areas of Veraval and Diu at a wind speed
\nof 120 to 130 km per hour, accompanied by rains, on the early morning of June
\n13. The state government has made all the arrangement to face this impending
\ncyclone and your cooperation is very essential, he further urged.
\nThe Chief Minister also urged religious, social, various chambers of commerce
\nand other NGOs to join in these mammoth efforts of shifting the people to
