Gujarat Government directed the authorities to complete the Metro Rail\u2019s stretch from Vastral Gam to Apparel Park on priority basis and start trial run in January 2019. The viaduct atop the pillars on Vastral-Apparel Park stretch have been completed, while work is in progress for the track and traction, as well as on six stations on this stretch.<\/p>\n

While 33.5-km of the 40-km Metro lines under construction will be elevated, 6.5-km will be underground. Since the underground portion of the Metro pass through the old city\u2019s crowded areas with people living in very old structures. Government directed the authorities to ensure no damage to the people\u2019s property and existing structures, and least inconvenience to people\u2019s movement.<\/p>\n

Centre has approved the project as it passes through ten protected monuments falling under this route. The Metro is envisaged as an alternative to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation\u2019s growing traffic problem for mass transportation.<\/p>\n

Out of Rs.10,700-cr project cost, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is extending Rs.6,000-cr loan. There would be 32 stations on the Metro being laid in two corridors \u2013 East-West and North- South. The 2-km long viaduct on the western end of the East-West Corridor is ready, whereas work on another 2-km stretch is under progress. The work is in progress for another bridge being built across Sabarmati River near Gandhi Bridge from where the elevated viaduct will enter the tunnel near Shahpur, underground the old city area. Four Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) are working on two up and down tunnels, having completed 0.65-km.
\nSimilarly, the work on the North-South is in progress from two ends, having completed 5-km viaduct so far and RCC work for three stations.<\/p>\n

As per the provision of the Rolling Stock Contract, a mock-up model of a Metro coach will be placed for public viewing for demonstration near Sabarmati Riverfront House or some other appropriate plot by the end of September 2018.<\/p>\n

The Kalupur Station is proposed to be developed into a three-layer multipurpose integrated major transit hub for the conventional railway trains, high-speed bullet trains and metro rails, keeping future infrastructure needs. He inspected the Railway Station\u2019s adjoining R.C. Technical School premises from where TBM shaft is being launched.
\nGujarat CM Vijaybhai Rupani today reviewed the progress in the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project near its underground site. Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Managing Director I.P. Gautam made a presentation on the project in progress.
