Ashram in Ahmedabad, pay their obeisance to Mahatma Gandhi
\nAhmedabad, Monday: US President Donald Trump, Mrs. Melania Trump and India\u2019s Prime
\nMinister Narendra Modi on their visit to the Sabarmati Ashram here today paid their
\nobeisance to Mahatma Gandhi and garlanded his portrait with khadi yarns.
\nMr. Modi welcomed the Trumps with traditional scarfs. Mr. Trump signed the visitors\u2019 book
\nand wrote, \u201cTo my great friend Prime Minister Modi \u2013 Thank you for this wonderful visit.\u201d
\nMr. Modi briefed Mr. Trump about the significance of Sabarmati Ashram, also called Gandhi
\nAshram. He presented to Mr. Trump as memento a replica of three monkeys, presented by
\nBuddhist monks of Japan to Mahatma Gandhi at Wardha Ashram in 1933.
\nSabarmati Ashram\u2019s Trustee Kartikeya Sarabhai had welcomed Prime Minister Narendra
\nModi.
\nA copy of Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s Autobiography and a replica of \u2018Charkha\u2019 spinning wheel were
\npresented to Mr. Trump on behalf of the Ashram. The Trumps tried their hand spinning yarn
\nat a Charkha.
\nThe Ashram-run Vinay Mandir Middle School girls sang Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s favourite songs
\n\u2018Vashnav Jana-re\u2026\u2019 and \u2018Raghupati Raghav\u2026\u2019 befitting the occasion.
\nOthers present on the occasion included US President\u2019s daughter Ivanka Trump, son-in-law
\nJaved Kushner, Gujarat\u2019s Secretary Mamata Verma, District Collector K.K. Nirala, Trustees
