{"id":35570,"date":"2020-03-14T20:27:11","date_gmt":"2020-03-14T14:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allgujaratnews.in\/?p=35570"},"modified":"2020-03-14T20:27:11","modified_gmt":"2020-03-14T14:57:11","slug":"u-s-embassy-sponsored-women-in-labour-podcast-series-launches-on-international-womens-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allgujaratnews.in\/en\/u-s-embassy-sponsored-women-in-labour-podcast-series-launches-on-international-womens-day\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S.-Embassy Sponsored\u00a0Women in Labour\u00a0Podcast Series Launches on International Women\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">March 11<strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>New<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Delhi<strong>\u00a0\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0This week marked the launch of a new, U.S. Embassy-sponsored podcast \u2013\u00a0<em>Women in Labour,\u00a0<\/em>a freewheeling, no-holds-barred comedy series that serves as a jumping-off point for critical conversations about why women are disappearing from India\u2019s workforce, why it is a serious issue, and what we can do about it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Launched on International Women&#8217;s Day,\u00a0<em>Women in Labour<\/em>\u00a0will release new episodes every Tuesday and Saturday featuring guest speakers from all walks of life, including journalists, filmmakers, IAS officers, social scientists, economists, policy influencers, entrepreneurs, and opinion makers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bi-weekly episodes tackle a specific angle of why women are falling out of India\u2019s workforce \u2013 the percentage of Indian women in paid work has dropped from 35% in 2005 to less than 24% today.\u00a0 These include conversations on education, work culture, marriage, domestic life, women in public spaces, and internal struggles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Women in Labour<\/em>\u00a0was created by Christina MacGillivray and Laura Quinn, with support from the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.\u00a0 MacGillivray, a filmmaker who directed the United Nations\u2019 first-ever stand-up comedy festival focusing on immigration and human rights, will present each episode alongside one of India\u2019s most celebrated comedians, Aditi Mittal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can listen to the first two episodes of\u00a0<em>Women in Labour<\/em>, featuring journalist Namita Bhandare and sports reporter Mayanti Langer Binny, at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/womeninlabour.com\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/womeninlabour.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1584266879246000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEj9vPEfGSNeJJ_kSW1vOT6BZMH3Q\">womeninlabour.com<\/a>.\u00a0 Episodes can also be downloaded on major podcast platforms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Women in Labour<\/em>\u00a0will also host a live conversation about the experiences of Indian women in sports at the American Center (24 Kasturba Gandhi Marg, near Barakhamba Road Metro station) on Wednesday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m.\u00a0 The panel will include sportswriter Rica Roy and professional athletes Jyoti Ann Burret, Vani Kapoor, and Raspreet Sidhu.\u00a0 Admission is free.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>About the American Center<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting the U.S. Embassy&#8217;s mission to promote mutual understanding between the people of India and the United States, The American Center offers art exhibits, book launches, film screenings, discussions, lectures, and cultural programs.\u00a0 The American Center is also home to iHub, a specialized library and innovation hub, as well as the Nexus startup and business incubator.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 11,\u00a0New\u00a0Delhi\u00a0\u2013\u00a0This week marked the launch of a new, U.S. Embassy-sponsored podcast \u2013\u00a0Women in Labour,\u00a0a freewheeling, no-holds-barred comedy series that serves as a jumping-off point for critical conversations about why women are disappearing from India\u2019s workforce, why it is a serious issue, and what we can do about it.
