{"id":38056,"date":"2020-04-28T06:32:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-28T01:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allgujaratnews.in\/?p=38056"},"modified":"2020-04-28T06:32:00","modified_gmt":"2020-04-28T01:02:00","slug":"entire-country-witnessed-sights-of-policemen-brutally-assaulting-and-beating-people-found-out-on-roads-and-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allgujaratnews.in\/en\/entire-country-witnessed-sights-of-policemen-brutally-assaulting-and-beating-people-found-out-on-roads-and-streets\/","title":{"rendered":"entire country witnessed sights of policemen brutally assaulting and beating people found out on roads and streets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>India\u2019s premier human rights organization, People\u2019s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), in a 3,600 word statement, has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in consultation with chief ministers, should immediately consider rolling back of the full lockdown in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis, insisting, if it all, India should \u201chave calibrated, limited lockdown areas.\u201d<br \/>\n<a name=\"more\"><\/a>Wanting that the Government of India (GoI) to do this by taking people into confidence by evolving \u201ca transparent method\u201d to determine the regions and areas where the lockdown can be lifted totally or partially, PUCL regretted, the lockdown measures are being enforced \u201cby using police power and prosecuting people for breaking the curfew-like conditions imposed on people.\u201d<br \/>\nPointing out that \u201cthe entire country witnessed sights of policemen brutally assaulting and beating people found out on roads and streets\u201d, suggesting a clear \u201cbreach of power and abuse of law\u201d, PUCL said, there is \u201crepeated promulgation of sec 144 CrPC prohibitory orders as a means of enforcing the lockdown\u201d in a \u201ccompletely unaccountable manner\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cTo illustrate\u201d, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/counterviewfiles.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/2020-04-pucl-statement-on-corona-pandemic-and-relaxation-of-lockdown-final-final-26apr2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PUCL statement<\/a>, signed by Ravi Kiran Jain, president, and Dr V. Suresh, general secretary, said, \u201cThe latest statistics from Rajasthan show that there have been 8,162 preventive arrests with 1,152 FIRs being registered during the lockdown period.
