Entry into the Thola Lake sanctuary area was closed during 27 and 28 January. Various species of birds were counted throughout the bird sanctuary. It was concluded that there were 45 to 50 thousand birds. Birds are seen in the bird sanctuary from November to late February. The lake near Thola village and its banks are called Thola Lake. Beautiful birds like flamingos, swans, different types of herons, wachet kajio and nakato come for 4 months.<\/p>\n

Glossy Ibis (Glossy Ibis) which are thousands of birds whose number ranges from about 80 thousand to 1 lakh. Pelicans, ospreys and other birds of prey often feed on a variety of fish. Earlier in 2021, more than 2,000 thousands of swan birds, called twelve-headed geese, crossed the huge high mountains like Himalayas from northern areas like Rajasthan and China to spend the winter in the Thola sanctuary. A bird named Falcon was also seen by the local system. New birds Red Crested Pochard 20 to 22 seen.<\/p>\n

Bird census was conducted by 60 ornithologists in 8 areas during 27 and 28 January. Birds from countries like Russia, Australia, Europe, China and the cold regions of the Himalayas and north-eastern states stay here for two months. The bird named Kunj has traveled a distance of ten thousand kilometers and has come to the bird sanctuary located at Thola in Kadi. At one time about 5 to 6 thousand Surkhabo were seen here. Nests of high flying storks are found in large numbers here. It has gray legs, common coot (Bhagatada), brahminidug, heronry bird, karkara, surkhaab, common crane. In 2018, 92 species of birds were seen and this year 87 species were seen.<\/p>\n

\nIn 2022, 4 birds with GPS in the year returned to Thol Lake in 2023.
\nBased on GPS, it is believed that the Kunj birds have reached Thola once again this year after covering a distance of 10,000 km. GPS GSM device installed and abandoned. Kunja was wearing a yellow ring on his feet. So that it can be recognized from a distance. This equipment is powered by solar energy. Records the location of the bow every 10 minutes. Information flows from mobile towers to researchers.<\/p>\n

In 2020, Kunj was equipped with a similar device in Wadla village of Lakhtar taluka of Surendranagar district near Nala Sarovar. These birds have climbed Everest from cold countries like Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Himalayas. As soon as the mercury here goes below zero, people come to Gujarat to escape from it.<\/p>\n

More than 70 exotic species of birds come here. 30 to 40 thousand birds come. 150 species of birds live here. 60 percent of it is aquatic birds.<\/p>\n

4 types of fish are found. These include Shingi, Katla, Rohun and Mingral. Apart from this, amphibians also include bullfrog and marble toad. Reptiles include rat, snake, cobra, checkered keelback, garden lizard, fan throated lizard, shrikes, begal monitor lizard, Indian flapsail tortoise etc. The animals found in this area are Nilgai (Rozdan), wildebeest, wolf, jackal and antelope.<\/p>\n

The sanctuary mostly has native Acacia trees in abundance, which proves to be a safe nesting site for birds. There has been no illegal hunting of birds.<\/p>\n

1 lakh 65 thousand tourists came to Thol in three years<\/p>\n

Thol Bird Sanctuary is a man-made lake. Thol Bird Sanctuary has been recognized as a “Ramsar Site” (wetland of international importance) on 12 August 2021.<\/p>\n

‘Gazette of India’ 18 October 2013 has some ecologically sensitive areas. Which includes lands of five Adhana, Jethalaj, Bhimasan, Karoli, Hajipur villages of Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district and two Tholas and seven villages of Sedfa of Kadi taluka of Mehsana district.<\/p>\n

Nalasarovar and Thola Bird Sea Conservation Society has been formed by the state government.
\nIn the bird census conducted in 2018, more than 1,43,000 birds of 122 species were recorded in Nala Sarovar and more than 40,000 birds of 92 species in Thola. In 2020, more than 57,000 birds of 87 species were recorded at Thol Bird Sanctuary.<\/p>\n

\nIn the year 2021-22, 56500 tourists, in the year 2022-23, 665042 tourists and till January 2023-2024, 42815 tourists came to Thol.<\/p>\n

In 1912, an earthen embankment was built to protect it from floods. This irrigation lake is located at a distance of 25 km from Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n

In 1986, the Government of Gujarat declared this lake area as a ‘Game Reserve’. The sanctuary was declared in 1988.<\/p>\n

Rain water comes through the canal. After 9 feet water level the excess water is drained through waste weir. The maximum water storage capacity of this lake is 312 mega cubic feet. The area of the lake is 15500 hectares i.e. 38 thousand acres. That means 700 or 7 square km. The storage capacity of the lake is 840 lakh cubic meters. Because of the birds 3<\/p>\n
