According to the Indian Constitution, there are 250 members in the Rajya Sabha. There are 11 members in the House from Gujarat. Elected members of the states and union territories of India. Rajya Sabha is never dissolved. One-third of its members are elected every 2 years. The tenure of the members is 6 years. Out of which 12 nominated members are appointed by the President.<\/p>\n
The powers of the Rajya Sabha are similar to those of the Lok Sabha except in business matters. If there is disagreement in the meetings, two meetings are called simultaneously. Since the Lok Sabha has double the number of members, it has more power in a joint session. Till now the joint session has been held only 3 times, the last time the joint session was held to pass the anti-terrorism POTA bill.<\/p>\n
According to the Constitution of India, the Vice President is the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
