Jamnagar: A shocking case has come to light at the Government Dental College and Hospital in Jamnagar, where an employee working on a contract basis under the National Health Mission (NHM) has allegedly embezzled \u20b91.36 crore by tampering with checks belonging to the ‘Rogi Kalyan Samiti’ (Patient Welfare Committee). Consequently, a responsible official of the institution has been compelled to file a police complaint regarding the matter.
\nAccording to Dr. Sanjay Vallabhdasbhai Umrania\u2014who serves as a Class-2 Tutor at the Government Dental College and Hospital\u2014the police complaint states that due to a severe shortage of administrative staff within the institution, various financial and administrative responsibilities were delegated to contract-based employees. Among them, Shobhit Garg\u2014an NHM appointee working as a government contract employee\u2014was formally entrusted with the responsibility of managing the financial records and transactions of the ‘Rogi Kalyan Samiti’. On May 16, 2026, Dr. Kansagara of G.G. Hospital informed the Dean of the Dental College over the phone that a bank manager had reported the deposit of lakhs of rupees into Shobhit Garg’s personal account via checks issued by the Dental College’s Patient Welfare Committee. Upon receiving this information, the Dean summoned the committee members and other officials to conduct a preliminary inquiry. During the investigation, Shobhit Garg failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, thereby deepening the suspicion against him. When the account statement of the Patient Welfare Committee at the Central Bank of India was examined, it was revealed that over the preceding six months, a total of \u20b91,36,19,350 had been transferred\u2014through 15 separate checks\u2014into Shobhit Garg’s personal account at the Bank of India.<\/p>\n
The complaint further alleges that this entire scam was perpetrated through the manipulation of government grant funds\u2014received from Gandhinagar for patient treatment and the salaries of outsourced employees\u2014by altering check amounts to embezzle the funds, by misusing an official position, and by engaging in criminal deception against the government.
