A power struggle regarding the selection of new office bearers is currently unfolding within the BJP. Moreover, an official announcement regarding the names of the office bearers—including the Mayors—is expected to take another few days.

**BJP’s Dominance in the Elections**

The BJP delivered a stellar performance in the local self-government elections. Subsequently, intense deliberations took place at the Chief Minister’s residence in Gandhinagar regarding who should be entrusted with the reins of power in the various Municipalities and Municipal Corporations. However, all proceedings had to be temporarily halted following PM Modi’s visit to Gujarat.

**Disagreement Over Selection**
According to sources, a consensus could not be reached regarding the selection of office bearers in Surat, Ahmedabad, and other cities. In the Saurashtra region, the ‘Rupala faction’ has become active, while in Surat, the ‘Patil faction’ has taken the lead. Significant internal tension prevails among various BJP factions regarding the appointment of Mayors and Standing Committee Chairpersons, which has led to the postponement of the official announcement. Meanwhile, a BJP spokesperson has claimed that the preparatory work regarding the selection of office bearers for the Municipalities and Municipal Corporations has been completed. It has also come to light that the list of office bearers has been finalized following discussions on this matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was on a two-day visit to Ahmedabad.

**Official Announcement After the 22nd**
In light of this, the official announcement regarding the Mayors, Deputy Mayors, and Standing Committee Chairpersons for the municipalities and municipal corporations could be made at any time after the 22nd.
