Chief Minister Vijay Rupani disbursed Rs.8.97-lakh to 93 daughters
\nof Class IV employees as incentive assistance from the NaMo Gujarat Karma Yogi Kalyan
\nNidhi Trust at a simple ceremony at Swarnim Sankool here today.
\nThe Trust was started by Mr. Narendra Modi in 2014 with a corpus fund of Rs.21-lakh
\ndonated from his salary before he moved on from Chief Minister of Gujarat to Prime
\nMinister at the Centre. He had wished that the fund should be used for education of
\ndaughters of Class IV employees, to ensure they do not drop out for inability to pay tuition
\nfees. The Chief Minister is the Chairman of the Trust, while the Chief Secretary and GAD
\nAdditional Chief Secretary are the Trustees.
\nSpeaking on the occasion as the Chairman of the Trust, Mr. Rupani said it was due to the
\nvision of Mr. Modi that he had also started the Kanya Kelavani Nidhi as part of his
\ncampaign for spreading girls\u2019 education. It resulted in significant rise in girls\u2019 literacy in the
\nGujarat when he was the Chief Minister here.
\nMr. Rupani said that the assistance from the NaMo Trust ranging from Rs.1,500 to
\nRs.30,000 is disbursed for pursuing education from pre-school to postgraduate level under
\n22 categories, even for professional courses and competitive tests. So far, Rs.19.57-lakh
\nhas been disbursed to 225 such daughters. He also listed the state government\u2019s various
\ngirls\u2019 education and women\u2019s\u2019 empowerment schemes.
