10.6 lakh passengers in public transport, no police protection in Ahmedabad metro

Ahmedabad, 29 September 2022

In a report prepared by the Narendra Modi government in 2010, it was said that 6.75 lakh people would travel in the metro rail. But now information has come out that only 50 thousand people will travel.

If the metro public transport service of Ahmedabad is to be successful, then 10 public transport service stations will have to be connected to each other. Only then can metro rail be successful. After the introduction of BRTS, there was going to be a decrease in private vehicles, but it has increased. The same is happening even after the arrival of the metro.

There is no police protection for metro commuters. A separate police agency will have to be formed for the safety of the people. An app will have to be made for the safety of the people by creating a control room. Otherwise, by 2025, the investment of Rs 30,000 crore of Metro will fail.

10 Transportation Systems

Amdavad is the sixth largest metropolitan city in the country by population. Ahmedabad has City Bus, BRTS, ST, Indian Railways, Bullet Train, Private Travels, Taxi, Auto Rickshaw and Metro Rail. All services can be successful only when they are interlinked. There is a need for separate traffic police and ordinary police to interconnect these 10 transport systems. The way the railway police works, it can be done. Because in Ahmedabad 10 transport services carry a population of 72 lakhs and 6 lakhs passengers including outside tourists travel.

multi-modal station

Sabarmati, Kalupur, Paldi, Maninagar, Ranip, Geeta Mandir where more than one transport service is available, a ‘multi-modal hub’ will have to be made connecting all the transport services, so that pollution can be removed by reducing the number of vehicles. Can go

2 thousand police needed

At least 10 transport service stations in Ahmedabad are now set to become hotspots of illegal activity. Currently, it is a venue for pickpockets and drug dealers or sellers of everyday goods. Now all kinds of illegal activities will increase there. Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited – BRTS, AMTS, Railways will have to work with 2 thousand police commandos. Still no thoughts.

For time table and complaint, only one online app will have to be kept for 10 transports. Only then it can be given security by bringing 6 to 10 lakh passengers daily.

Future

A population of 75 lakh people in Ahmedabad is served by these 10 transport services. By 2035 the population will be 1 crore 20 lakhs. By then, driverless cars and other new transportation services will have arrived. There are 2 thousand km of roads in Ahmedabad. But 5 public transport services run on only 600 km route.

32 corridor

The construction of Ahmedabad Metro Rail and BRTS started simultaneously from 2003. Now Rs 12,925 crore has been spent in Phase-I. The first phase of the Ahmedabad Metro project has a route of 40 km on which 32 corridors will be built. The train will have 96 coaches, 129 lifts, 161 escalators and 126 entry-exit points. Where the police must be there.

passenger

Initially, each train will have three coaches with a seating capacity of 1,000 passengers. The number of passengers on the north-south corridor of the Gujarat Metro Rail is now estimated to be around 40,000. Presently, the six kilometer stretch from Vastral to Textile Park carries about 900 passengers daily. Now till Shilaj it can be increased to 4 thousand passengers in the beginning. There were going to be 4 lakh lugs from the 2010 estimate. Something new will have to be done to make Modi’s failed plan a success.

6.75 lakh passengers

In the 2010 DPR it was predicted that the stretch between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar would cost Rs. 4,300 crore will be spent and by 2010, 6.75 lakh passengers will come in the metro daily. But after the start of two phases, it is expected that hardly 40-50 thousand passengers will be able to meet the metro daily. There are CCTV cameras for their security but there is no police.

2 thousand transport stations

Ahmedabad has 2 thousand stations connecting 10 services. Where now the police is needed for security. which is not. Four thousand policemen are needed for 16 hours of police duty. Otherwise, Ahmedabad, which has been admired for the safety of women from 1920 till today, may be infamous for the arrival of the Metro.

create police wing

For law and order, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation has to create a police wing and a separate police station. Because at present there is no provision for this.

Law and order has become a big problem in 9 cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata where metro rail has started. Especially anti-social elements do illegal activities at stations. Drug dealers and drug dealers have become illegal business havens.

Create Transportation for Ahmedabad

The 10 services require a single common mobility card, common app, platform and timetable for passenger ferries and taxis. The entire system of the city will have to be built in the name of ‘Transport for Ahmedabad’ and not according to the name of metro or bus companies. Ahmedabad is to have a common system like ‘Transport for Ahmedabad’, a common mobility card, a common time table and a common app.

Although Mumbai has a network of suburban trains, metros, a third of all travel is done by city buses. In Ahmedabad it is the opposite. In Ahmedabad, the city bus is the only way to stay further. Metro train will not replace it. There is no alternative to city buses . Bus facilities are to be systematically linked to Metrorail and other services.

The metro has started at hardly 40 kms with heavy traffic. Which has happened in 20 years from 2003 to today. which is very expensive.

Along with the metro stations in Ahmedabad, BRT and Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service, ST need to be connected. By forming a good partnership with it, it can bring in more passengers. Mass transport will be successful only if Khangi can overcome the vehicle.

AMATS bus has to run till the metro station.

If Metro is to be successful then more investment will have to be made in BRTS, AMTS, Tidal Railway, ST buses. In contrast, investment in other services in Ahmedabad city has declined.

Metro will have to cooperate if AMTS and BRTS have to reduce the loss of Rs 500 crore.

Vehicles on the roads

Most of the private vehicles ply on the roads of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. 1400 people died in 3600 vehicle accidents in Ahmedabad. There are 40 lakh private vehicles. The maximum number of two wheelers in the city is 30 lakhs. Every month 15 thousand nine vehicles are registered in Ahmedabad. Which is the main cause of traffic jam. As per the vehicle scrapping policy, 19 lakh vehicles will be scrapped in Ahmedabad city-district.

400 vehicles per thousand people

The government announced in 2021 that only 700 km of roads were built in Gujarat in 5 years, while the number of vehicles increased by 68 lakh, killing 13,456 people in 30 thousand accidents in two years. 9% of the country’s vehicles are in Gujarat. Gujarat leads the country with 400 vehicles per thousand population. The number of vehicles in Gujarat has increased by 135 percent in the last ten years.

Sync like singapore city

London, Beijing, Singapore have good transport system in the world. Where there is good coordination between train and bus. Where is the Transport Police? Who records crimes himself and takes action against criminal gangs. Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation is to create a separate unit of Transport Police separate from the police department in Ahmedabad. Who has the power of law and order?

BRTS Police

BRTS has started from 2009. If the Modi government of Gujarat had said yes to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, today the metro train in Ahmedabad would have been like Jaipur.

Ahmedabad Janmarg Company has 275 buses. On an average 1 lakh 60 thousand passengers per day. There are 14 routes of 101 km. AJL will introduce 650 electric buses. In December 2017, 3 lakh 50 thousand passengers were traveling daily.

Buses stop at 390 stations in 19 lines of BRTS. BRTS has 143 stations on 14 routes. There are 286 automatic doors. Where the police are needed. At present, black business is being done on 110 km routes due to lack of police at police stations. For 16 hours of duty, 600 policemen are required here.

20 awards but not to the police

BRTS claims to have won 20 national and international awards for design, implementation and performance. But not a single award for safety.

BRTS

Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited Company is a company of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. There are total 250 buses. In which there are 186 AC buses. Although the Ahmedabad BRTS plan was presented as a lighthouse project at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, no steps have been taken to protect it. In 2010, it received the title of sustainable transport. But it is yet to prove sustainable. Awarded as India’s Best Rapid Transit Facility in 2009. But no action has been taken for law and order. Most of the neck chain robberies take place in these stations and buses.

100 defects removed but not khaki

The SEPT University of Ahmedabad has devised a route for simultaneous detection and removal of 100 defects in BRTS of Delhi and Pune and in Ahmedabad. But the government has not even started the police work yet. Which is the biggest drawback.

In 2022, a bus caught fire near Shivranji. Then the real security situation came to the fore. CNG buses often catch fire.

Passengers decreased

After 6 years in 2016, the ridership of BRTS and AMTS was reduced to 7.5 lakhs. During this period, the number of private vehicles in Ahmedabad increased by 54%. 18 lakh private vehicles increased to 25 lakh in 6 years and 30 lakh private vehicles in 2022. It is declared that people do not like to go in public transport. This can be successful only if they are protected and 10 services are integrated with each other.

The speed is 27 kmph.

There are 10 common arrangements essential for safety and traffic management. In 2015, Ahmedabad Janmarg had a loss of Rs 35 crore. 98 crore was spent on BRTS. Today there is a loss of 50 crores and an investment of 110 crores.

Ahmedabad had 8.5 lakh passengers in 2009. 7.5 lakh in 2016.

In 2011, 1 lakh 20 thousand passengers traveled daily in the 42 km network of BRTS. In 2016 it was 1 lakh 32 thousand.

20 to 22 percent of commuters used their motorcycle to take the bus

e-rickshaw

There are 1 lakh rickshaws and 20 thousand taxis in Ahmedabad.

In 2019, the municipal corporation launched 150 e-rickshaws for intra-city connectivity for BRTS passengers. Which disappeared by 2021 and again it was decided to install the same number of e-rickshaws.

AMTS

AMTS city bus started from 1940. 700 buses in 2022. There are 149 routes.

ST Corporation

Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation – 16 Divisions of GSRTC, 125 Depots, 2 There are 26 bus stations, 1,554 pickup stands, 8,703 buses. 40 thousand employees. In 8 years, 20 thousand new buses worth Rs 4 thousand crore have been bought by taking loans. There are 14 thousand electronic ticketing machines in 8200 schedules. Travels 34 lakh kms per day with 44 thousand trips. In this, 25.18 lakh passengers travel daily. 2 lakh passengers pass through Ahmedabad.
