3 generations of Ahmedabad to travel 12,000 km across 16 countries in 73 year old vintage car

1950s British vintage car 1950 MG YT – Red Angel will travel 12,000km across 16 countries from India to London. It was being prepared for two years. This car will leave from Mumbai on 15 August 2023. It is not certain when it will come. However, this journey will be around 60 or 90 days. If the vehicle breaks down, the days will increase. Will reach England via 16 countries from India.

From Mumbai, the vintage car will be taken to Dubai along with its support vehicle.
Driving a car from Dubai, Daman will travel from Ahmedabad to the Abingdon factory in London with his 75-year-old father, 21-year-old daughter and a group of friends and family. After traveling internationally, the car will go back to where it was built, at the factory.

Beginning
The journey will begin from Ahmedabad with a visit to the Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world. UAE, Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, Belgium and France. The tour will end in the United Kingdom.

Car won’t run
Routes going from India to Pakistan or China are closed. So the train will shift from Mumbai to Dubai. The real journey will start not from India but from Dubai. From Dubai, Byroad will travel to Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium and then to the UK. Usually vintage cars do not run more than twenty kilometers. Will run 200 to 250 kilometers daily. A distance of 2000 kilometers will be covered in 10 days in Iran. In Turkey, a distance of 1500 to 2000 kilometers will be covered in 10 days. Since Europe is a very small country, it will take two to four days. Though the maximum speed is 60 kmph, it will travel comfortably at 35 kmph.

Bought for 5 thousand
British Vintage Car 1950 MG YT built in 1950, at the factory. Which was bought in Ahmedabad in 1979 for 5 thousand rupees. Based on a story, it was named Red Pari. 99 percent of the parts of the car have been changed.

Car
The beauty of the car leaves the onlookers amazed with a smile. Rare spare parts were sourced to make the 73-year-old vintage car travel ready. Lalpari has been completely restored. That is, if there is any technical problem in the car, then the car will not stop in the middle and will be able to reach its destination. Will use solar panels throughout stay.

Imported second car
There are between 100 and 125 such British Vintage Car 1950 MG YT models in the world. One such vintage car was found from Canada and imported in Gujarat. She shopped for car parts. The ‘Statue of Unity’ on the car has been designed by jeweler C. Krishna Chetty with a special silver hood ornament.

How much does it cost?
Not sure. Nevertheless, it can be inferred from the experience of people who have traveled earlier that they can spend Rs 5,000 in a day. For accommodation and food, tents, sleeping bags and eatables are kept wherever necessary.

Preparation
Travel is in the blood of the family. To check whether it is mechanically ready or not, it was driven for a thousand kilometers for four months in 45 degree temperature. Walk in one and a half to two feet of water. Drove the car on the steep slopes of Mount Abu. The engine failed during testing. Since parts were not available, parts were brought in from London.
Preparation started in 2008-09. The car was completely redesigned in 2017-18, following which the family traveled to Jaipur, Kutch, Mysore and other places to test the performance of the old four-wheeler.

Team
The team is being led by 50-year-old Daman Thakor. His father’s name is Deval and his 21 year old daughter’s name is Devanshi. Documentarian, architectural photographer and filmmaker Vinay Panjwani and vintage car expert Mukesh Bararia are on the tour. Friend Vinay Panjwani. Been on different tours for the last 20 years.
During the tour, the team will also visit vintage car clubs along the way.

With a minibus
The 73-year-old roadster will be accompanied by a supporting fleet, a Tata Winger mini bus, driven by vintage car enthusiast Mukesh Bararia and photographer Vinay Panjwani. Minibuses will carry tents, spare parts, food and other supplies. The name of the camper van is Lal Pari Ki Saheli.

Message
The decorative edition will give the message of ‘One World, One Family’ to the world. The road trip will be completed by mid-October. The people of Gujarat and India will be gifted to the people of Britain.

Daman Thakor visited Bharatdarshan by road when he was only three years old. After his parents got married in 1970, they traveled for 45 days from Ahmedabad to Kashmir for their honeymoon. After marriage in the year 2000, like his father, he also went on a trip from Ahmedabad to Kanyakumari with his wife. Has traveled to 30 countries.

Grandfather’s role
Daman’s grandfather was a mechanic. Was an insurance surveyor. Father was also an insurance surveyor. Wherever there was an accident, the whole of Gujarat used to travel by car or motorcycle. It is very common to spend 6 to 8 hours in a car. Daman Thakor’s father has traveled to 30 countries. The campervan is about to dive in.

Visa
UK, Schengen, Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia have taken 6 to 8 visas. The schedule has changed frequently. In case of US Visa, it is on arrival in Dubai. Azerbaijan and Georgia also have similar facilities. This facility is available at the airport. If you land at an international airport then you get visa on arrival facility for that country but since you are going to enter that country by car you have to talk to the government of that country and get visa .

The weather is a challenge
The temperature will be 40 degrees in Dubai or Iran, 20 to 12 degrees in Europe. The temperature in London will be 8 to 10 degrees.

Documentary
