4 percent MPs elected against 14 percent Muslim population

Least number of Muslim MPs elected in 60 years

Not a single Muslim MP has been elected in Gujarat for 30 years

Implementation of Sangh’s undeclared Hindu nation

Ahmedabad, June 19, 2024
The share of Muslim MPs in the 18th Lok Sabha is the lowest in the last six decades. Although the population of this community is more than 15 percent of the total population of the country, the number of Muslim MPs among the current MPs is less than 4 percent. No Muslim MP has gone to the Lok Sabha for 30 years since the rise of BJP in Gujarat. Muslim politicians are facing a big setback after the rise of Hindu ideology. Mohan Bhagwat of the Sangh said that we are going to do something this year that the world will remember us for a long time. Whether they say it or not, they have an agenda of Hindu nation for the last 10 years.

Currently there are a total of 24 Muslim MPs (4.4 percent) in the Lok Sabha. This time, the share of Muslim MPs of the largest opposition party Congress increased, but the total number of Muslim MPs in the Lok Sabha came down to a record low.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is the largest party in the 2024 election results. They have no representation from the Muslim community.

The decline in the share of Muslim MPs in the Lok Sabha started in the 1990s after the BJP came to the Lok Sabha. With the rise of the BJP, the number of BJP MPs crossed 100 for the first time in the 10th Lok Sabha (1991-96). Earlier

The share of Muslims in the Lok Sabha was highest in the 1980s. The share of Muslims in the Lok Sabha was highest in the 1980s at 8.3 percent. At this time, the Congress was in power during the 7th (1980-84) and 8th (1984-89) Lok Sabha.

The number of Muslim MPs increased again when the UPA government came to power in the 14th Lok Sabha (2004-09). It increased to about 7 percent. At this time, a decrease in the number of BJP MPs was seen in the House.

If we look at the data of the last four Lok Sabhas including the current Lok Sabha, during the second term of the UPA, there were 4.8 percent Muslim MPs, while during the first term of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), their number decreased to 4.8 percent. (NDA) 4.7 percent.

In 2019, it again increased to 5 percent in NDA 2, but in NDA 3, this figure fell to 4.4 percent.

Currently, the Congress party tops this list with seven Muslim MPs, which is 7 percent of the total number of Congress MPs.

This is the first time since the eighth Lok Sabha (1984-89) that the share of Muslim MPs in the Congress has exceeded 7 percent. In the 6th, 7th and 8th Lok Sabha (1977-89), this share reached about 7.5 percent. Since then, the share has declined sharply and steadily to 1.1 per cent in the seventeenth Lok Sabha (2019-2024).

After the Congress, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) are next on the list with five and four Muslim MPs, respectively.

11 per cent of SP MPs are Muslims and 17 per cent are from the Trinamool. Other Muslim MPs include three from the Indian Union Muslim League, two from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, one from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslim and two independents.

Muslim MPs have low participation in Assam and Kerala. The main reason for the low number of Muslim MPs in the recent Lok Sabha is the major drop in the share of Muslim MPs in Assam and Kerala. This time their share in Assam has come down from 14 per cent to 7 per cent. While in Kerala it was reduced from 19 per cent to 15 per cent.

In Uttar Pradesh too, despite the ‘Bharat’ alliance winning most of the seats in 2024, the share of Muslim MPs in the state has declined from 8 per cent in the last Lok Sabha to 6 per cent in 2024.

Only ten states and union territories have elected at least one Muslim MP in the current Parliament. At the same time, states like Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Uttarakhand have never elected Muslim MPs.

Around 1300 MLAs have been elected in Gujarat. Even in that, Muslims are less. Ahmed Patel was in politics for 40 years but when he started losing the Lok Sabha from Bharuch, he started going to the Rajya Sabha. In the last 50 years, not a single Muslim has been elected to the Lok Sabha from Gujarat. 82 members of Rajya Sabha have been elected from Gujarat. In which 10 per cent Muslims have been elected. There are 11 members from Gujarat in the House.
