Ahmedabad, 20 December 2024
Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront has become a road of death. 18.90 km on the western side of the Sabarmati river and 18.10 km on the eastern side. 37 km of pedestrian road has been built on both sides at a cost of Rs 2 thousand crore. Which has become a road of death for 11 years.
On the site inspection, only 50 percent presence of security guards was seen on the river front walkway. Thus the big scam of keeping less security guards is the reason for suicides.
44 security guards have been deployed on the East River Front Walkway and 53 on the West River Front Walkway for 24 hours in 8-hour shifts.
SRFDCL has hired 19 first shift, 16 second shift and 9 third shift security guards on the east side of the river front over the river front walkway.
20 first shift, 20 second shift and 13 third shift security guards of a private agency are deployed on the west side walkway.
The responsibility of the security guard is to ensure that the riverfront property is not damaged, to ensure that no one commits suicide or attempts to commit suicide from the riverfront walkway, to ensure that no one pollutes the river from the riverfront walkway.
But the security agency on the river front walkway has failed to perform its duty and responsibility.
No action or concrete steps have been taken by SRFDCL or AMC to ensure that no one commits suicide or meets with an accident by jumping on the above mentioned 37 km walkway road. Due to which more than 1800 people have died by jumping into the river from SRFDCL walkway in the last 11 years.
Suicides are on the rise due to the absence of a fire station on the river front. In the last 11 years, 1869 people have died, including 247 women, 1586 men and 36 children.
466 people have been saved from attempting suicide. Jamalpur Fire Station and Shahpur Fire Station are 1.5 km away from the river front. Navrangpura Fire Station and Sabarmati Fire Station are also far away, which are 4 to 5 km away from the river front. It is very far.
The duration takes 7 to 15 minutes. 3 minutes are required for rescue.
A fireman named Bharat Mangal has been appointed on the river front by the fire department to rescue people. Bharat Mangal is not seen present at his duty place. 2 river boats have been provided. Both the river boats are closed.
No CCTV cameras. Due to which we are not able to see the live view of what is happening on the river or footpath.
