A case has been registered against two former municipal commissioners of Vadodara under the Corruption Act. Vadodara: 14 people, including 12 school children and two teachers, died in a boat accident in the lake area of Harni Lake on January 18. The Gujarat High Court has also held the two municipal commissioners responsible for the accident, while the parents of the deceased have today written to the Vadodara Police Commissioner requesting him to register an FIR against both the officers under the Corruption Act.
The parents of the deceased children and the relatives of the teachers said that two days ago, the Gujarat High Court in a 15-page order held the then Municipal Commissioner of Vadodara Vinod Rao and former Commissioner H.S. Patel responsible for the boat accident case and ordered punitive action against both. After investigation of the accident, it was found that the then Municipal Commissioner had approved the project despite the contractor of the lake area not having the qualification. The observation of the High Court in the entire matter is that the Commissioner approved the project despite the lack of approval of the Standing Committee.
The parents say that in the complaint we had filed two months ago on May 27, 2024, we had also demanded to register a complaint of corruption against these two officers, but at that time the administration was protecting both the officers. Now that the High Court has also supported our words, the Vadodara Police Commissioner should register the complaint. Today we had also sought time to meet the Police Commissioner, but he was busy with other work and could not meet us.
