Unseasonal Rains Cause Heavy Damage to Farms

Gujarat has experienced four spells of unseasonal rain: before Navratri, during Navratri, during Diwali, and after Diwali.

The Agriculture Department had estimated that this would result in the production of 12 million 57 thousand tons of grains, pulses, cotton, and oilseeds. However, if the four spells of rain cause a 30 percent loss, it can be estimated that farmers have suffered losses ranging from 350 thousand tons to 4 lakh tons.

At a 10 percent loss, the loss can be estimated at 12 lakh 05 thousand 700 tons.

At a 30 percent loss, the loss can be estimated at 3.6 million tons.

Price Loss
If the average price of all crops is only Rs. 25 per kg, the estimated loss can range from Rs. 3,000 crore to Rs. 9,000 crore.

If the average price of a kilogram is ₹50, this is three times more than vegetables. This could result in losses of up to ₹27,000 crore.

Damage to Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers, Chilies, and Spices –
Vegetables, fruits, flowers, chilies, and spices are cultivated across 2.16 million hectares, producing 28.6 million tons annually. The average production per hectare is 13 tons. If the price and loss estimates are only 10 percent, a production loss of 2.8 million tons can be expected.

Unseasonal rains adversely affected the good production of Custard Apple.
