Ahmedabad, June 18, 2025
India’s 7th largest airport is Sarkar Patel International Airport. The profitable Ahmedabad Airport has been given to Adani by the Modi government. After the plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, in which a large number of people were killed, many lapses in security have been found. 333 buildings, towers, trees in Ahmedabad are a threat to the landing and take-off of planes. The new civil hospital in Ahmedabad has been built illegally. The civil hospital where the plane crashed is 7 meters high in the path of the plane. Thus, the civil hospital can be held responsible for the collision of the plane.
333 tall places in Ahmedabad, whose details have been hidden by the Airport Authority by removing them from the civil domain. It is mandatory for every pilot to give information about 333 tall buildings in Ahmedabad, but they are not given such details. If the pilot is informed about this risk, then the pilot can refuse to fly the plane.
Tall buildings, towers and trees around Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport are posing a serious threat to the takeoff and landing of planes. Vishwas Bhamburkar, a local citizen who has been fighting on this issue for decades, has exposed the scam of illegal construction being done by builders and officials. According to his allegations, the builders are building tall buildings in violation of the approval of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), due to which the safety of aircraft is at stake.
150 tall buildings changed location
In 2015, the government started the process of privatization of the airport, which has been given to Adani. Ahmedabad Airport cannot be allowed to increase the height of the buildings as it is becoming a nuisance, but the builders have submitted different plans to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Vaihai Satta Mandal and got them approved. In which 150 buildings with false maps according to latitude and longitude have been approved before the Airport Authority. There is a demand for investigation against the builders, officials and political leaders involved in this scam. The administration needs to take immediate steps in this matter so that the safety of the aircraft can be ensured. It is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. This airport is the busiest and largest airport in the state of Gujarat. Its security has been compromised by the builders of Ahmedabad, who are the favourites of BJP leaders. The airport authority builds the building at a different place instead of the place whose map is in front of them. The building of Kubernagar is shown in the map of Bhopal and the airport is approved. The airport authority does nothing against such buildings. The geographical coordinates or longitude and latitude give the addresses of the houses, give permission. There are 150 buildings in Ahmedabad that have been approved to be built at a different place instead of the place where they are located. There are 150 illegal buildings, all of them are to be demolished. Although the builders have committed a criminal offense by showing fake maps, no complaint has been lodged against anyone. Construction is prohibited within a radius of 4 kilometers of Ahmedabad airport. This reduces the height of distant areas
Kokham of 1.5 crore people annually
In the financial year 2024-25, 1 crore 30 lakh passengers came from Ahmedabad. In such a situation, buildings have become dangerous for these 1 crore 30 lakh passengers. It is the seventh busiest airport in India in terms of passenger traffic. This year 1.5 crore passengers will come here.
333 buildings block planes
333 buildings, towers and trees around Ahmedabad airport are blocking the flight path of planes. These have become illegal. This also includes the building of the Civil Hospital, which is 7 meters higher than the flight path. This airport was established in 1937. While international flights have been flying since 26 January 1991. It was given the status of an international airport on 23 May 2000. Since then there has been a huge demand for houses near the airport, which has been taken advantage of by builders and the BJP. Anti-collision lights should be installed on every tall building, but this has not been done. Flashing red lights should be installed on tall buildings, but they are not installed, which becomes dangerous for aircraft. Illegal construction There are 150 buildings for which permission was taken for one place, but construction was done at another place. These buildings need to be demolished, but no action has been taken. In March 2004, Air India started service to London’s Heathrow Airport with Boeing 747. But it stopped its London flights from 2008 to 2010. This flight carries 10 lakh people from Gujarat to the United Kingdom. Since then, high-rise buildings have come up near the airport.
Fake map scam
Builders submit fake maps to the Airport Authority. For example, a map of a building in Kubernagar is submitted for approval for the Bhopal site. Now a new Dholera International Airport is being built due to expansion restrictions at the 88-year-old airport.
Buildings of GIFT City
A high-rise building in Gift City, Gandhinagar is also causing trouble for planes flying at Ahmedabad Airport. There are 12 high-rise buildings here, one of which is so high that it can block the path of the plane.
Airport Authority, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and DGCC
Officials are not taking action against these illegal constructions. It is alleged that the matter is being suppressed due to political pressure and conspiracy. Since 1986, when the BJP government is in power in Ahmedabad, high-rise buildings have started increasing. Now it has reached 333.
Risk for pilots
This airport serves as a focus city for Air India and an operating base for Indigo.
Pilots are not given a list of high-rise buildings, due to which
the safety of people is at risk. Also, mandatory anti-collision lights or flashing red lights are not installed on high-rise buildings.
Scam going on since 1986
This scam of illegal construction has been going on since 1986, but no concrete steps have been taken to stop it. Construction is prohibited within the 4-km oval radius of Ahmedabad airport. 12 BJP mayors are responsible for this. 7 Congress mayors are responsible.
Judicial inaction
A public interest litigation (PIL) on this issue is pending in the Gujarat High Court since 2021, but no quick decision is being taken. Ahmedabad Airport, officially Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (IATA: AMD, ICAO: VAAH). Whose responsibility is not determined. The Gujarat High Court does not dispose of PILs quickly.
There are laws but those laws are not followed by builders and officials, politicians protect them. If the hidden income of DGCA officials, town planning officials, mayors and leaders involved in this scam is investigated and how much their children are earning, the truth will come out. Earlier the Airport Authority used to put a list of houses on its website, this list was removed. The Gujarat High Court should have asked for immediate action, but the judges have not heard a single one since 2021. Make planes safe by demolishing high-rise buildings, builders should compensate the owners of the houses. Builders have to take permission from the Airport Authority. Builders build buildings even higher than those for which they get permission. There is a big scam in Ahmedabad to legalize high-rise illegal buildings. Then they sell them to customers by showing permission, the builders sell them to home buyers. Vishwas Bhabhukar’s fight Vishwas was threatened to fight for 10 years, the police did nothing Vishwas Bhabhukar has been fighting alone on this issue for 10 years, but he has received threats and the police has not taken any action. His demand is that illegal buildings should be demolished and buyers should be compensated by the builders.
Vishwas became famous from the Anna movement. He is a fighter. Despite financial constraints, he fights legal battles for 2 crore citizens of Ahmedabad and Surat. He is currently fighting in the Supreme Court of the country.
Vishwas himself is India’s number one runner, he completed the Brazil Run in 48 class, which is his record. He has won gold medals. He used to do mountaineering. But due to the fight against the government and officials, it stopped and his financial condition worsened. Even by saving money for rent and food, they have been fighting on many issues since 2012. They are working madly and stubbornly for the safety of the citizens of the country. They are struggling and fighting for Gujarat.
Danger all over Gujarat
Not only in Ahmedabad, more than 1500 high-rise buildings and towers around six airports of Gujarat including Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot are dangerous for planes. There are 1000 such obstacles in Surat alone. These buildings are not surveyed every year.
Risk issues
High-rise buildings and towers at all 6 airports in Gujarat are dangerous for planes. 2 crore people fly from these 6 airports every year. There are 1000 such buildings and high towers or trees in Surat
There are more than 1500 high-rise buildings or towers or trees in Gujarat, these are dangerous for planes. High-rise buildings near airports in Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Ahmedabad should be surveyed every year, but this is not done. By not surveying the buildings, BJP mayors protect the builders.
A high-rise building in GIFT City is also becoming an obstacle for planes at Ahmedabad airport.
