For the last few years, cases of heart attack are being reported every day. There has been an increase in the problem of heart disease in Gujarat for the last few years. In the last 6 months, 40047 cases of cardiac emergencies have been registered in the state. In such a situation, 223 people per day and an average of 9 people per hour fall victim to heart related diseases in Gujarat.
20 percent increase in cardiac emergencies
According to the information received from emergency service 108, there has been a 20 percent increase in cardiac emergencies between January to June 2024 as compared to the first six months of 2023 i.e. January to June. 33936 cases of cardiac emergencies have been registered from January to June 2023, while 40047 cases have been registered from January to June 2024. The highest number of cases this year was recorded in May at 7175, while 5907 cases were recorded in April.
On an average, 65 people fall victim to heart disease every day in Ahmedabad
On the other hand, 11782 cases of cardiac emergencies have been recorded in Ahmedabad from January to June 2024 and 10150 cases from January to June 2023. Thus, on an average, 65 people fall victim to cardiac emergencies every day in Ahmedabad.
Un.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology located in the Civil Hospital campus of Ahmedabad has performed 14756 cardiac operations. These include ballooning to 263, devices to 775, pacemaker to 622, stenting to 3939 and various cardiac treatments to 9157.
Lifestyle is the cause of heart problems
On the other hand, 26728 cardiac treatments were recorded in 2022 and 29510 in 2023. As per the current situation, cardiac emergencies are likely to increase this time as compared to the last two years.
According to doctors, fast food and lifestyle are the main factors for the increase in cardiac problems. Many people suddenly take on too much workload without adequate exercise or regular walks and also suffer a heart attack.
Proper diet, regular walks and adequate sleep can improve heart health. According to doctors, to avoid heart attack, one should lead a stress-free life, regular diet, adequate sleep/rest, eat good sattvik food, fresh, green vegetables and fruits.
What are the symptoms of a heart attack?
The main symptoms are chest tightness, sweating, fast or irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness or fainting, weakness, acidity, back pain, jaw pain and heaviness in hands.
