Along with the route of the Ahmedabad Metro train, two new routes, east-west and south-north, have been planned in Ahmedabad. The total cost of the east-west project is estimated to be Rs 450 crore. A north-south corridor project worth Rs 250 crore is under consideration, which is being discussed.
Corridor – A road will be built to reach different independent places within the city. A one-way corridor, or a road passing between buildings, is planned to be a strip of city land that passes between or above other areas and connects the areas. Which is called Galiyara in Hindi. Which is called Corridor.
East-West Corridor
The maximum traffic of Ahmedabad city is towards east and west. Therefore, an east-west corridor will be prepared. Which will start from Ognaj and end near Ramol Toll Plaza. The estimated cost of which will be Rs 300 crore.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is planning to develop a single, continuous road passing through various areas to connect the western end of the SP Ring Road to its eastern end for the first time. Bids for this project are expected to open soon.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has selected the 10.23 km long road from Oganj Circle to Rishi Dadhichi Bridge as a pilot project. The work of issuing tenders worth Rs 100 crore for the section from Oganj to Vadaj has started.
Special improvements will be made in the design, traffic management and safety of the road. The road will go from Dadhichi Bridge to Ramol Toll Plaza via Shahpur, Kalupur, Kankaria, Khokhara Bridge.
It will connect Oganj, Gota, Chandlodia, Nariyarnagar, Akhbarnagar and Vadaj Circle.
In the second phase, a 10 km long road will be developed in five phases from Vadaj to Odhav. The estimated cost of the entire project will be Rs 450 crore.
Sardar Patel (SP) Ring Road connects several areas of the city. It directly connects residential areas, industrial areas and commercial centers. It provides easy connectivity to major roads like Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (SG) Highway.
The 22.30 km long corridor from Ognaj Circle to Ramol Toll Plaza will be connected to warehouses, shops and other commercial establishments. This corridor will provide great relief to vehicles going towards east and west.
Cycle lanes will be maintained. 6 thousand trees will be planted for greenery. Wide footpaths will be built. Street furniture will include benches, planter boxes, dustbins and informative signage. Shelters and waiting rooms will also be built along with bus stops.
It will also have a similar design. There is a similar design for junctions. Bottlenecks will be removed.
Although there was a plan to build a 60 meter wide road, it became very expensive due to the characteristics of the road. Its width had to be reduced from 30 to 36 meters.
North-South Corridor
A North-South Corridor project, under which a 25 km long road will be developed from Ujala Circle to Jhundal Circle at a cost of Rs 250 crore.
This road will pass through Jahupura, Vasna, Wadaj and Sabarmati. Both these corridor roads will connect with each other at Wadaj Circle. Where a flyover is currently under construction.
A new road is being developed at a distance of 500 meters from Wadaj, which will connect the Gandhi Ashram Development Project and Sabarmati Riverfront.
There is a multi-modal transport hub and a bullet train central station within a radius of 2 km.
After the iconic road from the city’s Airport Circle to Indira Bridge, 10 more iconic roads are being built.
The project aims to ensure smooth traffic between the western and eastern parts of the city. After this, the 10-km long road from Vadaj to SP Ring Road in Odhav will be developed in five phases.
