After starting a project in 2023, it remained in loss for two consecutive years. Now it is making profit. On 30 September 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vastral to Thaltej and APMC to Motera route. It started making profit when rail service started to Gandhinagar.

This scheme, planned and implemented with a capital investment of Rs 20 thousand crore since 2001, has not been completed even after 25 years. The survey was completed and the agreement was signed before 2003. However, the scheme is still incomplete today.

The Ahmedabad Metro has 3 crore passengers. While the Delhi Metro has 70 lakh passengers per day.

If the metro had started in 2007, there was a possibility of 10 lakh passengers traveling daily.

An agreement was signed with Delhi Metro in 2003. If the metro had started in 2007, there would have been a big profit today.

Profit
The post-tax profit for 2024-25 is Rs 238.93 crore. There was a loss of Rs 46.53 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 320.85 crore in 2023-24.
Advertising income is Rs 2.55 crore.
As the metro has increased its routes in 2024-25, the profit margin will also increase. Income has increased by an average of 30 percent per year.
The annual income of the metro in the year 2023 was Rs 32.12 crore.
The income in the year 2024 was Rs 32.12 crore. 43.62 crore.

In the first 6 months of the year 2025, an income of Rs 27.13 crore was made.

Loss
The first two years proved to be like raising a white elephant. Metro Rail, which was the lifeline of the people, was running in loss for two years. After suffering losses, it has now started running on the track of profit. The income of the metro was Rs 872 crore.

In the first two years, it incurred a loss of Rs 321 crore as against an income of Rs 65 crore.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) incurred a loss of Rs 321 crore in the year 2022-23. In the year 2022-23, it had to bear an average loss of Rs 87 lakh per day.

There was a loss of Rs 465 crore in the year 2021-22.

Expenditure
The financial expenditure in the financial year 2023-24 was Rs 75.56 crore. While depreciation was recorded at Rs 311.75 crore. However, this does not include the return on investment. If it is calculated, it will cost an interest of Rs 2 thousand crore per year. Until it earns an income of Rs 2 thousand crore per year, it will actually be in loss.

According to the balance sheet of the year 2023-24, an investment of Rs 6670.43 crore is work in progress.

Passengers
From October 2022 to August 2024, the metro earned an income of Rs 8.88 lakh from an average of 72514 passengers per day. 3 crore passengers were operated between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in 2025. In 2025, 2.31 crore passengers were registered in the metro from January to August. There is an income of Rs 27.47 crore. In comparison, 2.53 crore passengers were registered last year.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation registered 3 crore passengers in a year in 2025. During this period, a total of 2.93 crore passengers were registered, including 1.99 crore in the East-West Corridor and 94.18 lakh in the North-South Corridor. This is equivalent to an average of 80184 passengers per day.

The number of daily passengers has crossed 1 crore across all metro systems in the country.

Time saved by passengers
Compared to two-wheelers, traveling in the metro saves 35 to 40 minutes. There is a saving of up to Rs 50 per day. In the East-West Corridor, the distance by vehicle from Vastral village to Thaltej is about 26 km, while in the metro it is one rupee per kilometer.

In the North-West Corridor, the route from APMC to Motera in the metro is about 18 km.

Complaints
1820 complaints have been registered by passengers. The highest number of 1329 complaints were related to travel. 137 complaints were related to civic issues, while 95 complaints were related to security. There is a lack of parking facilities around metro stations. Due to this many drivers use their vehicles instead of metro. Feeder connectivity to metro is also not good. Public transport facility near the stations is also poor.

A big scam came to light just when the metro work started. (Google translation from Gujarati from the same website)
