A bird map of Ahmedabad city is being prepared. Which will show the colonies and number of birds. There have been 319 incidents of bird collision with planes in Ahmedabad in 6 years. Which leads to loss of crores of rupees and the incident of immediate landing of the aircraft. But while Adani’s company has not done anything concrete to stop this, bird lovers are now preparing a map of bird habitats in Ahmedabad which can be helpful in avoiding bird collision during flight.
There have been 319 incidents of bird-animal collision with plane in 6 years at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. However, after adopting advanced technology at Ahmedabad airport, it has been claimed that the incidents of bird strikes have reduced significantly. Adani’s control over the company does not seem to be improving. Because in 6 years, bird strikes are increasing instead of decreasing. There were 39 incidents in 2022 and 81 incidents in 2023, which is double the number of incidents.
Loss of 60 lakhs from a bird
Birds landing or flying at low altitudes are more likely to collide. Most incidents are not dangerous. According to a survey by the International Civil Aviation Organization, an average of 34 incidents of bird collisions with aircraft are reported every day in the world. Due to which there is a loss of $ 1 billion (about Rs 7,800 crore) annually. In 92 percent of the incidents, airlines suffer an average loss of Rs 10 crore due to a bird collision.
Adani had fixed a price of Rs 177 per passenger for the government to buy Ahmedabad airport. A 50-year lease has been given for operation, management and development.
Adani charged a fee of Rs 200. It has increased 10 times to Rs 85. 850. But, passenger facilities have not been increased. There has been a 10 percent increase in bird collisions in a single year. Adani has failed in that too.
Fire in plane
On 4 August 2024, a bird collided with a flight going from Ahmedabad to Chandigarh and returned to Ahmedabad. On 19 June 2024, the engine of a plane going from Patna airport to Delhi caught fire. The lives of 185 passengers were in danger. So now poison is given to end life. Either it is lit with a lamp.
Abhiyan
It is being claimed that due to killing animals by poisoning them at the airport, the number of birds has reduced by 95 percent.
Birds attack more in monsoon. Engine blades break. Therefore, grass is being uprooted and thrown away. Grass and soil are being poisoned to kill the creatures living there. Because birds come to eat these creatures. Bird maps can be useful to distract such birds.
Apart from poison, ferrous light traps and black light traps are also being asked to be used to eliminate creatures. A customized anti-perching device has been installed to prevent birds from sitting anywhere in the airport. Pigeons can be reduced. Bird infestation has reduced by 95 percent.

What is Ahmedabad City Bird Atlas?
Ahmedabad City Bird Atlas is being prepared. In which the map is being prepared with the help of Gujarat Bird Conservation Society, Community Ecology Lab of Ahmedabad University, Bird Count India, e-Bird and Ahmedabad University ornithologist Devvrat Singh Mori. Which can also be useful for the wildlife risk management program of the aircraft.
How many types of birds are there in which area? First map of Gujarat and Western India. The first city bird atlas in India was prepared by Mysore city in 2014. Ahmedabad is implementing it after 10 years. Which will be used in research. A complete bird map of Coimbatore, Pune, Hyderabad and the states of Kerala and West Bengal has been prepared.
The city of Ahmedabad is 504 square kilometers. The area of Ahmedabad metropolis is 400 square kilometers.
The area of 400 square km has been divided into small sections by scientific method. 250 people are associated with Ahmedabad. Every weekend whenever they get time, they go out to find and count birds in their area.
In 2024, a flock of 508 birds collided with an Emirates flight coming to Mumbai, killing 36 flamingos. The information collected for the bird map of Ahmedabad will be used for city planning and research on the bird diversity of the city, fluctuations in the bird population. The map will be made twice a year. The reason for more or less birds can be found out according to the season.
Also, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued guidelines asking the airport operators of the country to assess the threats to wildlife and rank them based on the damage caused to the aircraft. There should be a process to monitor the movement of wildlife at the airport and record data. Bird Map will also be useful in this command.
In 2013, a complete emergency was imposed at Delhi airport due to a bird collision
A process to inform the pilot about any wild animal or bird near the airport
There should be a process. Regular patrolling is a key element of the wildlife risk management programme. Based on that random pattern
It has been ordered to do this. So the bird map is going to be very useful for that.
Dholera
Work has been going on for 22 years to build an airport in Dholera, 100 km from Ahmedabad. It has not started yet. Earlier Adani had planned to build an airport here but withdrew it as it could not be built.
Dholera International Airport is now going to be operational in 2025-26. The annual passenger count will be 3 lakh. In 20 years it will increase to 23 lakh passengers. Cargo in 2025-26 will be 20,000 tonnes, which will increase to 2,73,000 tonnes in 20 years. Then Ahmedabad airport will remain closed. So what will happen to Adani who has been given a 50-year lease in Ahmedabad. (Google translation from Gujarati)
