Despite 33,000 vacant seats, including nursing, the council has approved four new colleges.

Ahmedabad: The sixth round of admissions for 10 post-12th-grade courses, including nursing, has concluded in the state. At the end of six rounds, all 2,496 seats across seven courses in government colleges have been filled. Additionally, the colleges have been authorized to fill 33,524 vacant seats in self-reliant colleges.

Following the completion of the process, the council has approved four self-reliant colleges. The deadline for admission to paramedical courses, including nursing and physiotherapy, has been set for November 30th. Consequently, another sixth round has recently been completed to fill vacant seats in government colleges.

As of now, 70 government colleges have 2,496 seats across seven different courses, and all of them have been filled. This means that no seats remain vacant in government colleges.

Students who have been allotted admission have been instructed to confirm their admission by paying the fees by the 19th. Currently, a total of 33,524 vacant seats remain in self-reliant colleges, including 9,074 for ANM, 2,323 for Physiotherapy, 8,711 for BSc Nursing, and 13,145 for GNM. The task of filling these seats has been entrusted to self-reliant college administrators.

Notably, despite such a large number of vacant seats, the Nursing Council approved four self-reliant nursing colleges just two days ago. Thus, with the admission process nearing completion and over 33,000 vacant seats remaining, there is considerable debate surrounding why the Council is approving new colleges.

Sources say that administrators are now debating whether the seats in the newly approved colleges have already been filled by students and whether they will be filled through scholarships. On the other hand, administrators are likely to present a proposal to the council regarding the vacant seats and request another extension of the admission deadline from November 30th.
