A state-level data storage center is being built in Sector 14 of Gandhinagar city at a cost of Rs 62 crore 30 lakh. This was announced by the Gujarat government in the assembly in 2025. A data center is a place where various facilities are provided for the IT activities and equipment of the Gujarat government. This facility includes data storage, processing and transfer of information and application functions. It can be considered as a server from where the entire IT of the government is operated.
Responding to a question asked by Mansa MLA Jayantibhai Somabhai Patel, he said, “With the construction of a data center, people will get a copy of land and building documents at a click. All documents of revenue offices have been digitized.”
Due to digital transformation, data centers will act as the backbone of the industry by 2025.
Mumbai and Chennai are becoming data centres and acting as markets due to cable landing stations. Gujarat is lagging behind. Data security, cloud computing and captive data centres will transform into cloud data centres.
Data centres are a vital contributor to the digital economy. Data centres will help create a digital economy in Gujarat due to digital transformation. Data centres will act as the backbone for the industry. Gujarat is still far behind as a data centre market.
After Mumbai, Chennai has emerged as the next data centre hub in the country with infrastructure advantages such as the fastest internet speeds, undersea cable landing, availability of infrastructure and pro-industry government policies and skilled manpower.
Landlocked cities like Gujarat, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Pune will benefit from the Mumbai data centre.
There is a special need to build cable landing stations in Gujarat.
It is expected to emerge as an important location. By 2025, companies like Airtel are investing Rs 5,000 crore for the largest network with 11 deep and 120 edge data centers. But the Gujarat government is still not investing enough in it. Therefore, it will lag behind in terms of IT activities and equipment.
Data Market
The global data center market size was US$187.35 billion in 2020, and is projected to reach US$517.17 billion by 2030. The data center market is expected to grow significantly. Investments in data center applications will increase.
