Gujarat Media Club (GMC) President Darshan Desai said the Club started with six members in 2006 has now 306; its members maintaining stress-free relation despite working in the extremely stressful profession. The club arranges garba, cricket match, health camps, and keeping journalists abreast with digital technology. Speaking at a function to felicitate journalists at the 12 th annual day function of GMC, Ahmedabad.

The Club presented best photographer award to Reuter’s Amit Dave, print story (Gujarati) award to Nav Gujarat Samay’s Shayar Raval, digital media audio-visual award to Gujarat.com’s Mehul Zala, digital media story award to Damayanti Dhar, electronic media award to Sandesh News Channel’s Amit Patel of Chhotaudepur, story-of-the-year (print- English) Rs.25,000 cash award to Parvin Rehman of Nalia-Kutch, best electronic story award to News-18 Sanjay Joshi, and lifetime membership and lifetime achievement Rs.51,000 cash award to Mahesh Thakar.

CM’s call to journalists and media to keep alive democracy and social values

With growing spread of the media and more youths joining the profession, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani today called upon the journalists to keep alive democracy and social values. He said it used to be only print media earlier to which has been added electronic media, besides radio journalism. If democracy is alive, the media will also remain alive. Time demands media adopted positive attitude for value-based democracy. It has necessitated skill development of journalists.
Mr. Rupani said that GMC followed the ideology of ‘samrasta’ (harmony) as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It requires some sacrifice too, besides facing challenges. He said the veteran journalists had made the profession a mission. He praised the role of GMC in instilling the same values in the present generation.
ONGC Executive Director Debasis Basu in his address said that ONGC has long relation with Gujarat and the organisation is conscious about its role in CSR, as in health, urban beautification and development.
