Sabarmati Riverfront Barrage-cum-Bridge at a cost of Rs 367 crore

A barrage-cum-bridge will be constructed from Torrent Powerhouse to Shahibaug at a cost of Rs 367 crore with a grant from the Gujarat Municipal Finance Board.
The operation and maintenance of the barrage will be based on an automatic control system, water will be available during water shortage.

Under Phase-II of the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project, a barrage-cum-bridge will be constructed from Torrent Powerhouse in the west to Shahibaug at a cost of Rs 367 crore. All the expenses incurred in the construction of this bridge will be borne from the grant received from the Gujarat Municipal Finance Board. The operation and maintenance of the rubber barrage in the riverfront project will be based on automatic control system during water shortage The amount of water in the city will be purified for about 10 to 15 days and sent through Kotarpur intake well

A bridge will be constructed connecting the roads on both sides from Sabarmati Torrent Power Station (BRTS) Road to Camp Sadar Bazar (Airport Road), this will provide direct connectivity from Sabarmati, Chandkheda, Motera to Hansol in the western region and the traffic problem from the airport in the eastern region will be reduced to a great extent As the operation and maintenance of the rubber barrage is based on automatic control system between the barrage cum bridge, a unique airfield rubber barrage will be built. It does not obstruct the flow of the river by deflecting it. The work of rubber type barrage has been given to Ahmedabad city of South Korea. Rajkamal Builder Infrastructure Private Limited has been assigned the work for this purpose.

What will be the specialty of barrage cum bridge?

– Connectivity will be provided from the main bridge on all sides to the footpaths on both sides of the bridge and riverfront road.

– Tensile roof footpath of 3 m width will be provided at the bottom of the main bridge deck.

– The main span of the bridge is 126 m iron arch and 42 m span on either side is suspended arch type and remaining spans are RCC pre-stressed girder type.

– Theme bays will have provision of decorative lighting and lock gates for water transport.
