Ahmedabad, Friday: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said the Smart City Mission
as a new concept for the 21 st Century launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has
become a people’s movement, ushering in a new life in Indian cities, promising a New
India.
Addressing the ‘Urban Transformation and Governance Summit-2020: ETGovernment’ at
the Sabarmati Riverfront here, he said that Smart Cities has brought about a positive
change among the people. Ahmedabad city getting the tag of Word’s first Indian Heritage
City has raised the importance of Gujarat and India.
He said that India’s Independence movement has also begun from the banks of this
Sabarmati River. We have developed the Sabarmati Riverfront as a gift to the World.
Mr. Rupani said that Gujarat has become a best destination for investment and a
manufacturing hub, creating many job opportunities for people of Gujarat and other states
as well. Gujarat cities have become a role model for Good Governance and Trade and
Commerce. He wished the summit would prove as ‘Right Job at the Right Time’.
Laying stress on technological upgradation of cities and urban public utilities, keeping the
people’s welfare in the target group. It is not enough for the cities to be smart, but have to
be safe also. He said the state of the art Integrated Command and Control Centre has been
started for real-time monitoring of the network of CCTV cameras.
The Chief Minister also launched AMDBIKE as public sharing of bike.
The function was attended by Ahmedabad Mayor Bijalben Patel, Additional Chief Secretary
for Urban Development Mukesh Puri and Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra.
