Traffic signals in Ahmedabad will get continuous green light

16/04/2025
Adaptive Traffic Control (ATC) system will be introduced to reduce traffic at 400 traffic junctions in Ahmedabad. Since the signals are synchronous, once a green signal is received, the next junction will also receive a green signal. This will make faster transportation possible. The efficiency of traffic signals will increase and the time spent waiting at the signal will be reduced significantly.

An adaptive traffic control system has been introduced to reduce traffic congestion in Ahmedabad. It will be connected to a central server.

Adaptive traffic control system, vehicle recognition sensors, intelligent and connected traffic controllers, communication network, central server with traffic status at junctions, corridor and area status, ATCS software, traffic simulation software, good traffic visibility and various signals, static sign boards etc.

These sub-systems will be integrated into a single, coherent interface, providing real-time data on traffic conditions and enabling better daily operations and efficient city planning. Before implementing this system, more than 300 existing junctions were surveyed.

Apart from this, 100 new junctions will be created and ATCS scheme will be started at about 400 junctions. There are a total of 301 signals in Ahmedabad city, out of which 288 signals are currently operational. 13 signals have been closed due to metro and bridge work, but before starting the main system, a survey of small junctions will be done once again and more than 100 new signals will be started.

The time spent standing at the signal will be reduced considerably. Pollution will be reduced.
