In SAUNI scheme, 88 of 115 dams will not be filled with Narmada water, 10 lakh acres will not be irrigated

Gandhinagar, 17 May 2020

With the summer heat prevailing in the Gujarat state, lakes and check dams will be filled by the Narmada canal from May 20, 2020 to meet the drinking water and other needs of the cattle in the villages.

Water will be wasted in reservoirs and check dams connected to Saurashtra’s important “Sauni Yojana”.

In which 16 lakes, check dams, 6 reservoirs and 293 lakes check dams through link-1, 6 reservoirs and 53 lakes check dams in link-3, 15 reservoirs and check dams in link-4, 15 reservoirs and 185 lakes check dams found 27 reservoirs and 547 check dams and lakes Will be filled by Narmada water.

A total of 115 dams were to be piped, but on May 16, 2020, the government said 27 dams would be filled. Thus, the pipeline has not reached 88 dams or the government does not want to take water in it.

There are an average of 20 lakes around one dam. So Sauni’s plan was to fill 2300 check dam-ponds with water. But barely 547 check dams – ponds have to be filled with water. Which proves the failure of Vijay Rupani and Narendra Modi.

About 230 km of the four links were found. Work has been started since March 2014 to divert the length of the pipeline from the Narmada canal and carry it by motor.

The former chief minister announced the scheme in 2012 to win the elections and implemented it since 2014 to win the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The pipeline was to irrigate 10.22 lakh acres. The government has not made any announcement to provide irrigation water. Advertised for drinking water only.

Water from 4 pipelines can be taken in this dam only when it is monsoon and water is wasted due to the overflow of the Narmada dam.

This means that water can be taken only when the Narmada floods in the last 1 month of monsoon. Other than that using water is a violation of the law as per the interstate agreement.

Saurashtra Narmada Pipeline Irrigation Scheme
The flood water of Narmada will be diverted to the rivers and dams of Saurashtra area through Narmada main canal and Saurashtra branch canal for 1126 km. It is planned to reach 115 reservoirs in 11 districts of Saurashtra through four long pipeline links. In which 10.22 lakh acres were to be irrigated.

How is the plan
Link-1
Link from Machhu-2 in Morbi district to Sani in Jamnagar district: With a carrying capacity of 1200 cusecs, this link has a total of 30 closed reservoirs in Rajkot, Morbi, Devbhumi Dwarka and Jamnagar district. Through which irrigation has been decided on 2.02 lakh acres of land. There is a 57-kilometer pipeline.

Link-2
Link of 51 km pipeline from Limbdi Bhogavo-2 dam of Surendranagar district to Raydi dam of Amreli district: 107 cusecs carrying capacity pipeline has been used to irrigate 2.74 lakh acres of farms by filling water in 17 reservoirs of Bhavnagar, Botad, Amreli district. Irrigation will benefit 2,6,200 acres. In this link, works have been assigned for the initial 31.2 km, which is in progress.

Link-3
Link of 66 km pipeline from Dholidhaja Dam in Surendranagar district to Venu-1 in Rajkot district: 1200 cusecs of water is to be filled in Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dev Bhumi Dwarka, Morbi and a total of 28 reservoirs in Surendranagar. So 2 lakh acres of land is irrigated.

Link-4
55 km pipeline link from Limbdi Bhogavo-2 dam in Surendranagar district to Hiran-2 irrigation project in Junagadh district: 1200 cusecs of water was to be used to fill 40 reservoirs in Rajkot, Surendranagar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Porbandar, Botad and Amreli districts. Which was to irrigate 3.48 lakh acres of farms.

These details prove that the BJP’s Vijay Rupani government and former Chief Minister Narendra Modi have failed to plan and use everything.

Tappar Dam will be filled in Kutch. 10,465 MCFT for filling 550 lakes of Sujalam-Suflam and Narmada pipeline in North Gujarat. Water will be released. This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel. (Translated from the original Gujarati report of this website)
