Three thousand crore contract for door-to-door garbage collection in Ahmedabad, Gujarat

E-rickshaws will be deployed to run, a contract worth Rs 3,000 crore will be given for door-to-door garbage collection in Ahmedabad.

A proposal to hand over the work to different agencies for door-to-door garbage collection from all seven zones of Ahmedabad for ten years at a total cost of Rs 10 crore has been placed for approval in the Standing Committee meeting today. The annual cost of door-to-door garbage collection has increased to Rs 240 crore. 1450 vehicles with GPS system will be deployed for door-to-door garbage collection. E-rickshaws will be deployed for collection.

According to the proposal placed before the standing committee, there are more than 21 lakh residential and commercial properties in Ahmedabad. Door-to-door garbage collection is being done in the city since 2017. Municipal Corporation Commissioners have opened the doors in cities like Surat, Indore. , Mumbai and Jaipur. Two door garbage collection system has been studied through a consultant and some important suggestions have been given regarding door to door garbage collection system in the city. Currently 1100 vehicles are being used by the agencies. After completion, the vehicles will be phased out and replaced with new vehicles. All vehicles will be linked to the GPS system. Through this, officials up to the zone level of the municipality will be able to get updates about door to door garbage collection operations. Mobile app support. The waste of society, apartment etc. will be collected through gate system. Religious waste from all religious units will be sent for processing in a separate vehicle.

Garbage collection from residential units will be done from 6 am to 2 pm

Under door to door garbage collection, garbage will be collected daily from residential units from 6 am to 2 pm and from commercial units from 9 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Four types of garbage will be collected separately

At present wet and dry waste is collected separately in door to door garbage collection vehicles. From now on, apart from wet and dry waste, domestic hazardous waste and sanitary waste will also be collected separately. Arrangements will be made for this at the back. Vehicle unit should be given.
