It has been 25 years since Rajkot’s Hemali Desai’s cricket scoring trip. Veteran women scorer Hemali also scored in the Ranji final of Saurashtra and Bengal. The match ended in Rajkot on March 13. Hemali, 44, is from the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) in the BCCI scoring panel. She is the only woman Duckworth Lewis manager in the country. Hemali has scored two Tests, 12 ODIs and three international T20Is so far in his career. Apart from this he has scored in many IPL matches and over 100 home matches.
Harbhajan Singh is shocked
It’s 2015. The Ranji match between Saurashtra and Punjab was held in Rajkot. Hemali and Sagel were scorers. Harbhajan was the captain of the Punjab. He reached the scorer room to find the score of Punjab, where he was shocked to see the women’s scorer.
‘Passes state panel scorer exam in 1994’
“After playing under-16s, West Zone and All-India University Cricket tournaments in school-colleges from 1990 to 95, there was a desire to progress in cricket,” says Hemali. Passed state panel scorer exam in 1994. Passed BCCI scorer exam in 1997. In the early days I thought I couldn’t survive as a scorer, but I succeeded. I have scored over 100 domestic tournaments in the spirit of my passion and desire. I had the opportunity to work as a scorer in all Euro-Asia Cup matches in 2005-06. ‘
8 qualifying women scorers in the country
“There are 8 qualifying women scorers in the country,” says Hemali. Two of them belong to Rajkot. I am the most senior. My junior colleague Sejal Dave Mehta works together in all international and domestic matches in Rajkot. After the role of a scorer two years ago, the BCCI has entrusted me with the Duckworth Lewis Manager. Duckworth Lewis has served as manager for two ODIs and 3 T20s. ‘
