So far, 1755 enforcement samples and 3731 surveillance samples have been taken out of 5486 samples, while 2423 inspections have been conducted by the Food and Drugs Regulatory Authority from manufacturers, retailers and cold storage warehouses involved in the food business.
During this Food Safety Fortnight, more than 640 awareness programmes were organised for 56 lakh citizens during Navratri at various locations by Food Safety on Wheels.
45.5 tonnes of suspicious ghee worth Rs. 1.39 crore has been seized in Mehsana and Patan. Based on private information received by Food and Drug Administration, May. Hariom Products, 28, 29, 30, Rajratna Estate, M.P.O. Budasan, D.T. Link, G. Mehsana. The raid was conducted on the basis of suspected adulteration in ghee in May. Jai Ambe Masala firm was not licensed by FSSAI.
During the inspection on the spot, the system team also found foreign fat, palmolein oil and ghee, which prima facie showed evidence of adulteration in ghee, so a total of 6 samples were taken from the spot in the presence of the responsible persons. While the remaining amount of Rs. 43,100 kg worth Rs 1.25 crore has been seized.
Apart from this, unlabeled ghee was also found by the system from the firm of Nitinkumar Bhailal Gheewala located near Teen Darwaza in Patan city, which was the producer of suspicious ghee. On the basis of which a total of 11 suspicious ghee samples have been taken from there in the presence of the owner, while the estimated price is around Rs 25 lakh. 14.30 lakh and the remaining amount of more than 2400 kg has been seized.
After the analysis report of these food items being unhealthy comes, legal action will be taken as per the rules and further detailed investigation is going on in this matter.
