In order to provide affordable electricity to the municipality through wind power in the renewable energy sector, Ahmedabad Municipality has commissioned a 21 million MW capacity plant at Nakhatrana. This wind power plant has saved 243 million units of electricity. Solar panels have been installed at 65 locations where bus stands are found. With the help of solar projects of 5007 MW capacity, 7.08 million units of electricity has been generated, overall electricity worth Rs 174 crore has been saved. To provide cheap electricity to the municipality, the first wind power plant of 4.2 MW capacity was commissioned in June-2016 at Nakhatrana, Kutch. So far, this wind power plant has generated a total of 7.13 crore electricity units with estimated economic benefits. The municipality has got a benefit of Rs 46.35 crore. In December-2017, a second wind power plant of 4.2 MW capacity was commissioned by the municipality at Nakhatrana. With the help of this plant, a total of 6.51 crore Vijayunits have been produced. So far the municipality has earned an estimated economic benefit of Rs 45.59 crore. This system has been successful in achieving. In May-2019, the third wind power plant of 4.2 MW capacity was installed in Nakhatrana. With the help of this plant, the estimated economic benefit of Rs. 20 MW wind power plant will be planned under the new policy

The age limit of wind power plant is considered to be 20 years. The pay back period is considered to be 5-6 years. Presently all plants are provided operation and maintenance facility for 10 years. Under the new policy of the state government, a wind power plant with a capacity of 20 MW will be established in the near future. Its arrangements will be made by the Municipal Corporation Administration.
