Ahmedabad, July 20, 2024
Massive demolition is being carried out in 250 cities and villages in Gujarat due to pressure and demolition of illegal constructions. Such 15 lakh constructions have become money-making factories for officials, state leaders, builders and blackmailers.
Before 28 March 2011, 15 lakh illegal structures were built in Gujarat. It is estimated that 20 lakh illegal constructions have been made in the next 10 years. Corruption is now taking place in the demolition of illegal buildings.
In 2011, Governor Beniwal told the government that there is no provision to hold any officer responsible for stopping large-scale illegal construction and Governor Beniwal raised other 10 objections with the government and he refused to sign the bill and returned it.
The Gujarat Unauthorized Development Regularization Act became the guarantor of legalizing corruption. Deliberate loopholes were kept. The ruling party, officials and builders can commit corruption.
The threat of demolition is turning into corruption. 228 structures were to be demolished in Rajkot but only 11 were demolished. In 4 years from 1.4.2020 to 31.4.2024, notices were issued to 2131 properties in Rajkot. In which not even 10 percent has been demolished. 90 percent of the houses have been demolished.
The landlord is threatened with demolition under section 260 (1) and (2) of the Municipality Act. A corrupt administration was run, which created the threat of destruction.
By not demolishing, some people are given the opportunity to apply under the Impact Fee Act. Not destroyed due to corruption.
