Senior Ahmedabad-based activist Mahesh Pandya has demanded that private schools should provide midday meal to poor children who have been admitted in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
In a letter to the Midday Meal Commission, Gujarat government, Pandya, midday meal is an important government scheme to ensure poor school going children get nutritious food.
“However”, Pandya, who is director, Paryavaran Mitra, an environmental NGO, regretted, none of the private schools where poor children have been admitted under the RTE Act are provided with midday meal. “Arrangements to provide these children with midday meal should be immediately made”, he insisted.[:]
