In a letter to Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, a senior Dalit rights social worker, Kantilal Parmar, has said that the state government should take urgent steps to ensure provision of water in tribal-dominated villages of Chhotapudepur district of south Gujarat.
Pointing out that even handpumps in a large of such villages are not in a working condition, especially after early this year, Parmar said, the situation is bad despite the fact that the Narmada dam is not very far away, and the Narmada canal passes through the district.
“The state government should provide details on whether it is providing Narmada water to the tribals”, Parmar said, regretting, despite complaints in the past “no steps have been taken by the state government to mitigate the situation.”[:]
