[:en]Gujarat Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani today launched ‘108 Abhayam’ Mobile App to provide effective emergency help to women in distress, anywhere in the state.
Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja and Minister of State for Education and Women & Child Development Vibhavariben Dave were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rupani said the application developed by the State Government’s Women & Child Development Department with the help of GVK EMRI can be downloaded from Google Play Store Apple iOS. He suggested wide acceptance of the application.
The helpline starts working on pressing the panic button, even by vigorously shaking the mobile, indicating the location on google map through SDR, alerting the police station, automatically informing up to five acquaintances of the woman. Snaps taken on the spot can serve as evidence, too.
Today’s launch is extension of the 24×7 free-of-cost 181 Abhayam Mahila Helpline launched earlier on February 4, 2014 by Gujarat Government’s relevant departments in collaboration with GVK EMRI, by now equipped with 45 rescue vans, each manned by trained counsellor and female cops.
It has emerged as an effective communication tool with the help of LAN/WAN computerised CCT technology, extending it to android phones through GPS. The woman’s identity is kept secret. The rescue van with counsellor and female cop, in touch with the victim on phone, are rushed to the spot, including cases of domestic violence.. It is backed by follow-up action.
The 181 application has so far reached out to 4,05,602 women for help and counselling, rescue vans to 82,353 women, settling 50,925 cases on-the-spot, referring 24,203 serious cases to Police Stations, Shelter Homes, NGOs, Protection Officers, Free Legal Help and the likes.[:]
