In the general meeting of Morbi District Panchayat in Gujarat, the ruling party was cornered by questions from the opposition. The opposition demanded answers on matters related to grazing land and fire safety. However, it was revealed that the district panchayat itself did not have the information.
The District Panchayat Doesn’t Know How Much Grazing Land There Is
A general meeting of the Morbi District Panchayat was held today, where the opposition raised questions about grazing land and fire safety equipment, cornering the ruling party. The opposition pointed out that grants had been allocated for development on grazing land, but the district panchayat was unaware of the exact location and extent of the land. How could this happen? In response, District Development Officer J. S. Prajapati stated, “Panchayats are not aware of the government’s grazing land. A boundary survey needs to be conducted for that.”
Fire Extinguishers Have Expired, No Action Taken in 4 Months
Additionally, the fire extinguishers in the district panchayat expired in December 2024. It has been four months, yet no action has been taken regarding fire safety. The opposition questioned who would be responsible in case of a major incident if the equipment is unavailable while the tendering process is delayed. In response, the District Development Officer mentioned that strict action would be taken against those responsible for this negligence.
Earlier Discussions in Morbi District Panchayat
In the general meeting of Morbi District Panchayat, BJP’s Durlabhji Dethariya told the opposition leader, “Now that you are in one group, come join us, and together we will work on development projects.”
Earlier, in the meeting, it was discussed that the heavy rains in the Morbi district this year had caused severe flooding, and the district was declared as an area affected by excessive rainfall. Farmers’ debts were also highlighted.
In another meeting 8 months ago, the opposition created a ruckus over the 15th Finance Commission’s grant planning. Congress members accused the ruling party of encroaching on the opposition’s rights. BJP MLA Jitu Somani also criticized officials, saying, “The weak people work hard, while the wealthy people get their work done by placing weight on the table.”
