The BJP government could not eliminate poverty in 30 years, but has increased it
Ahmedabad, 20 August 2024
The number of poor in Gujarat has increased to 1.02 crores. In happy and prosperous Gujarat, today such a situation has arisen that a village man cannot use even Rs 26 per day. Whereas an urban person is not able to spend even Rs 32 per day. That is why they are transferring their children from private schools to government schools.
According to a report presented in Parliament, today 16.62 percent of people are living in poverty in developed Gujarat. People in villages are living in worse conditions than in cities. There are 21.54 percent i.e. 75.35 lakh poor in villages. While the proportion of poor people in the city is 10.14 percent.
27 lakh poor in the city
The number of poor in the city has increased to 26.88 lakh. In Gujarat, which is considered happy and prosperous, a total of 1.02 crore people are poor. The central and state governments are spending crores of rupees in grants every year for poverty alleviation. Not only this, despite the financial provision of crores of rupees in the budget, the picture of poverty in Gujarat has not improved.
1359 poor families increased in the last two years
Despite the implementation of various government schemes, the number of poor families in Gujarat is increasing. The state government itself has admitted that 1359 poor families have increased in Gujarat in the last two years. The number of poor families is highest in Sabarkantha, Panchmahal, Banaskantha, Anand, Junagadh and Dahod. Even though the government claims this, the reality is that poverty has taken root in Gujarat. The picture of poverty has not improved even in the year 2023.
BJP government failed
Poverty is becoming a challenge for the government today as well because poor families do not have access to adequate food, shelter and even clothing. Slogans of poverty alleviation are being raised and the ruling party and the opposition are blaming each other. But the BJP government, which has been ruling Gujarat for the last 30 years, has also failed to eradicate poverty.
Slogans of poverty alleviation have become quite limited. In fact, despite the implementation of poverty alleviation program, poverty has not been eradicated in Vibrant Gujarat. On one hand, Vibrant Gujarat is being promoted and praised. On the other hand, there is a bitter reality.
The number of poor families is increasing in villages as compared to cities. The question is why poverty could not be eradicated in Gujarat even after spending millions of crores. Why are the benefits of the government not reaching the poor? If the government is actually implementing the poverty alleviation program effectively, then why is there no improvement in poverty? The poverty alleviation program is being run only on paper. Underdeveloped Gujarat, vibrant Gujarat, developing Gujarat are being driven away. But the reality is that one-fourth of the population in Gujarat is poor.
