Ahmedabad, January 21, 2026
Since the BJP government came to power in India and Gujarat, it has been receiving significant funding. A chip manufacturing company in Sanand has given substantial funds to the BJP.
Ramesh Kunhikannan, founder of Kaynes Technology India Limited from Mysuru, donated ₹17 crore to the BJP in 2024-25. This came after the approval of a proposal by Kaynes Semicon Private Limited, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology, to set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. This factory is being established with an investment of ₹3,300 crore since 2023. It will produce 6 million chips daily.
The company is to invest ₹5,000 crore in this factory for digital engineering. CANS, through its subsidiary CANS Semicon, is initially setting up a semiconductor plant in Telangana with a capital outlay of approximately ₹3,000 crore. Telangana will have two chip assembly lines, while the more advanced chip assembly and testing operations will be in Gujarat.

The central government is providing assistance of ₹1,653.5 crore under the India Semiconductor Mission, and the Gujarat government has invested ₹661.4 crore in this project. CANS’s investment in the project is ₹992.1 crore. The semiconductor unit was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The chips will be used in various sectors including industrial, automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecommunications, and mobile phones. The central government is providing a subsidy of ₹76,000 crore.

The first proposal for setting up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat, was approved by the central government in June 2023. Subsequently, approval was given for setting up two more semiconductor units in February 2024. This includes the approval of Tata Electronics’ semiconductor plant in Dholera and CG Power’s similar plant in Sanand.
Work is accelerating on setting up 4 projects – 3 in Gujarat and 1 in Assam. All of these are expected to produce 70 million chips per day with an investment of approximately ₹1.50 lakh crore.

A world-class OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility has been established. There is a digital engineering partnership between UST and Kaynes Semicon.

Ramesh Kannan is the Managing Director of Kaynes Technology. Kaynes Semicon is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kaynes Technology India Limited, which operates in the semiconductor sector. Kaynes Technology, founded in 2008, is an electronics manufacturing company.
