[:en]Sanjiv Bhatt’s case update[:]

[:en]VINOD CHAND

Today in Palanpur Sessions Court, the judge that was presiding on the case in which Sanjiv Bhatt is in judicial custody for the last 50 days, proceeded on leave.

He is gone for the next 20 odd days.

The next date of hearing has been fixed for 12th November, after courts Diwali vacation.

It is going to be a black Diwali for Sanjiv Bhatt’s family and indeed for those who value truth and freedom.

Till yesterday, the court was hearing his bail application and the prosecution was asking for time to file papers. Today, the judge has gone on vacation.

Or maybe he has been sent on ‘leave’. When CBI Directors can be sent on ‘leave’, this judge is a small fry and he knows that happens to judges that show some spine. They are taken to Nagpur and then they have heart attacks.

It is better to go on ‘leave’ then to go to Nagpur and get a heart attack in an orthopedic hospital.

I spoke with Shweta Bhatt some time ago and she told me about the absolute media silence on the subject in Gujarat. Nothing surprising there though, a quid-pro-quo is in operation.

And the other organization IFFJ, it seems has run foul about raising money on the crowdfunding site. They too are hardly in touch with the family and are absent from the scene of action.

I plan to travel to Palanpur and also to Ahmadabad sometime next week to do a on-the-ground series of videos that will try to highlight the plight of the family and raise voices asking for his release.

This was supposed to be a 22 years old case in which directions were given to close the case in 90 days. And already 50 days are gone. With another 20 days delay, Gujarat Police will have only another 20 days to wrap up the case and present a status report to the High Court. I wonder what they will do when that time comes, ask for more time perhaps?

Justice delayed is justice denied. That applies to the complainant too, if the lawyer who has been wronged has had to wait for 22 years to get justice then our fight is for him too. Nobody should suffer denial of justice.

Because that may be a more serious crime than the original crime itself.
