The annual expenditure of 17 municipalities in Gujarat for 2026-27 will be ₹60,000 crore. The budget for the 8 old municipalities will be ₹49,000 crore, and for the 9 new municipalities, the budget will be ₹10,000 crore.
The 17 cities are home to 25 million people. ₹24,000 to ₹25,000 per urban resident will be collected annually, or ₹2,000 per person per month. If a family of 5 members is considered, the city government will receive ₹100,000 to ₹1.25 lakh in taxes, fees, and rates. This expenditure is significantly higher than in rural areas.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s budget for 2026-27 is ₹18,518 crore.
The Surat Municipal Corporation’s budget is ₹10,593 crore. The Surat Municipal Corporation elections are due in the next few months, and this will directly impact the budget. No taxes have been increased. Tourism, industrial tourism, and trade-adventure tourism will be promoted to make the city a tourism city.
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s budget for 2026-27 is ₹7,672.21 crore.
The Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s budget is ₹3,604.90 crore. There is no additional tax burden. Interest up to ₹5,000 on property tax and water tax has been waived.
The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation’s budget is ₹1,918.35 crore. Emphasis has been placed on AI technology and IT projects. These will now be approved at the general meeting next Thursday.
A tax increase of ₹9 crore has been suggested in the ₹1,860 crore budget of the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation.
Junagadh Municipal Corporation Commissioner Tejas Parmar (IAS) presented a budget of ₹1,501 crore. The commissioner presented the budget for the next year, 2026-27, to the Standing Committee.
The budget for the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation will be approximately ₹2,000 crore.
The budget for the Junagadh Municipal Corporation of ₹1,491.73 crore has been approved. The tax burden will be ₹6 crore.
From January 2025, nine more municipal corporations: Mehsana, Gandhidham, Vapi, Navsari, Anand, Surendranagar, Nadiad, Morbi, and Porbandar have been granted status.
A decision will be made on the ₹1,100 crore budget for the Navsari Municipal Corporation.
The budgets for the nine metropolitan cities have not been announced. Each one costs an average of ₹1,000 crore, which, if taken into account, would be approximately ₹10,000 crore.
