The production of food grains has dropped in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, 15 March 2020

In Gujarat, grain production is on the decline. The report, released in 2020 after the Budget in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, said that the production of cereals has dropped by 8.58 lakh tonnes. Therefore, Gujarat has now become a food-rich region. Grain is being provided to the people by importing grain from outside. In 2014-15, 77.99 lakh tonnes of grain was harvested. 64.05 in 2015-16, 74.20 in 2016-17 and 76.61 lakh tonnes in 2017-18 and now it produces 68.03 lakh tonnes. Which really was supposed to be more than 100 million tons of production. Thus 32 million tonnes is being produced less. Which is a matter of grave concern for Gujarat.

Similarly, cotton production in cotton has already been increased to 1.10 million bales, which has been reduced to one crore bales in 2017-18. Which has now fallen to 62.80 lakh bales. This is the case this year too.

In 2017-18, the production of 61.43 lakh tonnes of oil seeds was reduced to one half by 37.34 lakh tonnes. Even though the production of grain, cotton, oil is going down in Gujarat, the production of milk, fish, meat and eggs is increasing day by night.
