Ahmedabad, September 13, 2025
Owners of auto rickshaws, taxis, cabs in all cities of Gujarat including Ahmedabad city do not write the name of the owner inside and behind the vehicle despite being legally mandatory. The number of auto rickshaws is 11 lakh. These include 3 lakh cabs, maxi cabs, taxis. Including other vehicles, there are 15 lakh such vehicles in which it is necessary to have the driver’s name and phone number written behind the seat. This does not include 1 lakh rickshaws running illegally for passenger transport. An order has been given to write the driver’s name and phone number in all these vehicles.
The Gujarat government’s public website related to vehicle traffic has not been publishing any new information since 2019. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s Assistant Minister of State Harsh Ramesh Kumar Sanghvi, who is in charge of the Home Department, is himself in charge of the Transport Department. There is a state of chaos in his department itself.
The Principal Secretary of the Ports and Transport Department is Ramesh Chand Meena. He has completely failed to keep the website providing information to the public updated. He has put his name on the website, but has not provided any useful information for the citizens after 2019. The Commissioner of Transport Department is Anupam Anand. Both IAS officers are unable to protect the public information of the public. Now they are issuing notifications regarding public transport vehicles.
Serious incidents like cheating of passengers, pickpocketing, theft of mobile phones and other valuables, theft of children, robbery, rape, molestation of women and children and kidnapping are taking place.
The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner has ordered that the vehicle number and the name of the vehicle owner should be written behind the driver’s seat in such a way that passengers can easily see and read.
The police control room and helpline numbers should be permanently written inside the vehicle.
These rules are to protect the lives and safety of people from danger and to provide them security.
The vehicle number, vehicle owner’s name, driver’s name, as well as Ahmedabad city police control room, helpline number and mobile number should be written in capital letters in English behind the driver’s seat.
